Anyone have trouble with brain fog after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve surgery on 7/17 and since then my head just hasn't felt "right". It's hard to describe, I can still remember things & do crossword puzzles etc, I just feel a lot slower. I also get lightheaded if I turn my head too quickly. I know this is more common in those of us over 60 (I'm 65) so I was wondering if anyone else has gone through this?

Oh my gosh, this is sooooo common. Annoying and kinda scary, but common. I had it too and couldn't focus on anything for well over a week. My job relies on my ability to read and think, and it felt like I was never going to be "normal" again. Sure enough, adding Protein back into the diet helps a ton, as does getting enough sleep/rest. A few weeks from now, you'll barely remember this phase! :-)

Hang in there.

(PS - I'm 49)

I definitely experienced this. It does get better but it is one reason I think it's a good idea for folks to take their time going back to work even if they feel physically ok.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm 9 days post op and it is slowly getting better day by day. I always managed to get in my Protein and Water, and both my blood pressure and blood sugar were okay so I attributed the fog to the anesthesia. Looking forward to being "normal" again.

Uh, yeah ... three reasons:

Major surgery

General anesthesia

Pain meds

Just get plenty of rest and keep drinking lots of Water to help flush out the toxins from surgery and from your rapid weight loss. Your kidneys are working hard right now. :)

I just had gastric bypass on Monday and I feel the exact same way. It’s so hard to explain. It’s like I’m in my own world. I had complications with anesthesia and I was worried that might have effected me

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
