Post Op day 5! Is this stuff normal?

Recommended Posts

So I had VSG on 7-14 so that makes today post-op day 5. Down 20 lbs since pre-op diet :) I have been feeling so much better then I ever expected, until today. Today has been a little different. The last few times I've stood up I've felt very light headed and like I may pass out. And I have a very strange pain/pressure about 4 inches below my stomach incision. It hurts to sit up straight. Maybe it's gas? Also, I haven't had a bowel movement in almost a week. I took softeners Friday and Miralax yesterday and still nothing. Any advice? Sorry I know TMI but everyone has been here lol. I've had Greek yogurt, Soup, pudding, Jello, ect.

If you feel lightheaded when standing, you may be a bit dehydrated. That's a sign. Another quick way to tell is taking your pulse lying and standing. Generally, if you're dehydrated, there will be about a 20 point difference (your heart rate will speed up) ... And it's usually pretty fast.

As far as the pain, I haven't been sleeved, so I don't have a clue! I hope someone has some answers for you and I hope you're feeling better soon.

Hi ! I was sleeved on 7-8 it took me up until day 6 to finally use the restoom.I took an equate brand over the counter laxative. I had the light head stage too. I had to sit on the side of the bed. After sitting up then I would stand up. I just couldn't get up. I got up sit on side of the bed a min or two then stand up. I had that same little pressure below my incision. It got so bad I called the doctor. It felt like a nagging burning type pain. He told me to take my pain medication and rest. The incision they pulled the rest of what they took out usally its your longest incision. He said it sometime will feel that way. He suggested me relax and take pain medication. I did and about 3 days later I no longer feel that same pain I'm healing inside pretty well I guess. I do how ever when I sit up feel a little sore still. It's gets better... wishing you the best.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
