I sipped Water all day. I had several water bottles that I kept in the fridge. When I wasn't eating or in the beginning drinking Protein Shakes, I was sipping. Every day I filled a bottle and sat it next to me. If I went out, I took one with me.

It is very hard in the beginning to stay hydrated. Just make sure that you are constantly sipping all day long. It is a challenge. Also, you can try different temperatures for your fluids or different types of Water or flavored water. I have read that a lot of people find room temperature fluids easier to drink. I do best with very cold liquids. It is a lot of trial and error in the early stages. It gets easier.

Good luck to you- you can do it!!

For the first week it was a struggle for me to get to the 48 ounces my NUT asked for. I drank as much as I could and sipped all day. Every day got better and by the end of the first week I was there and then she asked for 64...lol

You will get there, just always have something to drink by your side, especially if you go somewhere.

Good luck!

I was dehydrated by the end of my second week. I had to force myself to get more liquids. I felt better immediately. This may sound odd, and it is purely psychological, but I now buy the small 8 oz bottles of Water. Trying to finish the small bottle is just not as daunting a task. When you have finished 8 in a day, you get your 64 oz. it works great for me.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
