So I am postop day 5 and still trying to figure things out! Overall I feel amazing. Today is the first day I feel hungry, but is it hunger? I had a 8 oz Protein Shake over 1 hour for Breakfast then another 8 oz Protein shake between 2 and 5. My stomach feels like maybe I am hungry, but I also know I have not drank enough Water today. I am very nervous to over "eat" with shakes and according to my NUT I should be having 5 shakes a day eventually. I also have noticed that I can take bigger sips today-is this normal? Can I really screw things up for losing weight on a liquid diet? Thanks in advance for your words of wisdom!

In terms of screwing things up, with what you've described, no, not at all. With the 'hunger' feeling, you've got to re-learn what it means to feel hungry, or at least I did. Your stomach can have too much acid in it, which gives the feeling of hunger, so be sure to take your antacids if you were prescribed any by your surgeon. Definitely get your Water in, its very critical, especially during summer months if your in a southern state. You don't want to end up in the hospital on an IV for fluids. Sip, sip, sip all day. It took me almost 2 weeks to be able to get in 64oz a day. You'll slowly start to be able to take in more as your stomach swelling goes down. Just remember to portion out everything and keep track of your Protein intake. The more protein the better! I get 100 grams of protein in a day now at 8 weeks out. Plus I've started to work out a lot more so I need it! But it really helps your body out during recovery too! Good luck and say good bye to those lbs!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
