I am exactly 4 weeks post-op tomorrow, so I feel I may be a good person to answer your question;

My surgeon and dietition told me that the first 4/6 weeks post op is NOT about losing weight. It's a byproduct for sure, but your focus should be on recovering and getting your body READY for school again.

This is a marathon, a life long marathon. The first 4 weeks for me have been pretty good and easy going. I've had no major issues and lost a bit of weight - but it's going to get better from here on in because i've looked after myself, rather than trying to get short-term results.

EDIT - I forgot to add that I updated my profile with correct figures <<< over there. So 48lbs in 4 weeks.

I lost only 12 lbs the first month. I was disappointed, but I had lost 13 lbs on the pre-op diet.

I'm older, though, 55, and my metabolism is slower, and I'm pretty sedentary because I'm a lazy so-and-so.

If you're young, you stick to your doctor's plan, you get some mild exercise (walking!) that first month, you may or may not do better. YOUR BODY decides how soon/how much it wants to give up, NOT YOU!

The most important thing, really, is that you learn to work with your new stomach, watch out for emotional eating (head hunger). Those things really are more important than how much you lose in month one.

In any event, I'm sure you'll look great, and feel so proud of yourself.

I'm not sure why the drama, this is a forum for opinions not a question and answer session. Emtscott offers a very valid opinion, and maybe OP didn't specifically ask for it, but perhaps it will be helpful. Moral of the story, take a chill pill and let OP state if they were offended/put off by the comments instead of immediately jumping to battle.

*throws chill pills all around!*

To OP! I don't know 1 month, but I started at 394.3 on June 10th and at my 6 week appt on July 22 I was 350.8. So I've lost around 43-44 lbs in 6 weeks. I want to say the first... 25 or so was in the first 2 weeks then I hit a 2.5 week stall in week 3 and stays at 358 from June 29-July 16. It was discouraging, but it's broken and weight dropping slowly now.

Disclaimer: 28 year old male that started at a high weight. 6'1 and surgery weight of 394.3

I had my surgery Monday, July 13

I went back for my post OP today and have lost 21 pounds in basically 9 days

I am down 36 from my pre-OP weigh in on June 26th

Now, that comes with a necessary disclaimer as people have said

I'm a man, and I'm 6'6., and apparently both those factors lead to greater weight loss.

My doctor today actually said I should be prepared to see my weight loss accelerate. 2 pounds a day was already pretty damn fast I thought

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
