When do our "insides" heal?

Recommended Posts

I know that our scars heal quickly, but I'm talking about our inside wounds .... I'm back at work (5 weeks post op) and I still feel slight discomfort when working. When will it feel normal to bend down, exercise, and feel normal on our insides?

Is like to know the answer to this as well. I feel like sometimes when I bend down, I feel like things are "rolling" under my ribs!

I was surprised when my dr told me that the actual pouch heals in two days! The outer scars (from incisions) in about two weeks and the abdominal muscles in about six weeks.

Yup......My surgeon said about 5 days, I was also very surprised.

I had my sleeve on May 20, and had 6 incisions due to extensive lysis of adhesions. I feel all healed on the inside but since I'm a type 1 diabetic, my external incisions are still in various stages of healing. I'm a very slow healer. Remarkably, my larger incision is almost completely healed, but several of the smaller ones are still scabby. Annoying? You bet! I'm just happy I'm healed on the inside. I'm also happy to say that my insulin has been cut way back and my A1c done since surgery was 5.9! I've never had one that low in more than 45 years!!! I thank my tiny tummy for helping me lose weight and stay in control every day!

That makes sense. My incisions look mostly all healed almost 3 weeks post op, but my stomach muscles still feel sore. Bending over, I can feel some soreness on my left side. I jumped out of bed the other day and that really hurt too. I hope i'm good by week 6 because i'm afraid to get in the gym even though my outsides are healed.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
