i can eat more that 1/2 cup

Recommended Posts

I had my surger in september 2006. I've lost 65 pounds now, I've had four fills and I know my band is tight, I do have trouble eating certain foods, especially at certain times of the day and month, my question is at times and depending in the food I am able to eat alot more that a 1/2 cup. I have not and am not gaining and it isn't always that I do this, is it possible I have streched my pouch out or that I can strech it out?? I just thought the band would make it where ti couldn't eat too much.

Some bandsters are able to eat up to a cup and a half, depending on what it is they are eating. If you aren't uncomfortable when you eat, you probably aren't doing any damage. A half a cup isn't much at all, I'm not surprised you can eat more than that, really. If you are losing without suffering, I'd say things are fine. If you find yourself hungry while trying to stick to your 'plan', then maybe go in for another fill

I wouldn't worry about your band stretching. You are probably okay. If you eat 1/2 to 1 cup of food and still lose you are lucky. If you aren't losing at 1/2 cup of food then you definitely need another fill. Let us know how you are.

I can eat more than 1/2 cup too - if you're not eating to the point of discomfort, you're absolutely fine and its ONLY a problem if you stop losing.

mlevel, I typically will wait a week or 2.

Wow! That's all! I am in desperate need for a fill then. I am at 3.5 cc's in a 4 cc band and it seems like my body will lose so slow now that the initial 65 pounds is off. I can go 6 to 8 weeks before I notice a couple pound drop. Thanks for sharing. I will definitely be getting a fill when I go back in on 12/27!

Btw, I how full can you really fill a band? I have heard conflicting things.... For example, only as full as the band 4cc band=4cc Fluid AND 4cc band=7cc Fluid. What is reality?

Thanks again!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
