Tomorrow's the Day......

Recommended Posts

Well, it's almost here. Tomorrow is my surgery day.

I'm hoping and praying that it goes well.... the pre-op diet has been a breeze for me so far, other than a little diarrhea I'm doing great. Let's hope that the surgery and recovery (and weight loss ) goes as smoothly.

My only fear: That I'll be that one in a million patient who does everything right, and doesn't lose weight.

Any final words of wisdom from the veterans will be greatly appreciated!!

I think everyone feels the same way...that we will be the one that doesn't lose. You are going to lose so just follow the plan. I was very fortunate that I had no gas pains or nausea after surgery but if you do, ask for meds. Getting up to walk really does help. Don't take a bunch of stuff to the hospital because you won't need it. DO take a pillow for the ride home.

The surgery was not painful at all for me, I was tender and I moved slowly for a week but it really was fine. You may come home weighing more due to swelling and fluids, that will drop back off. Don't obsess over the scale if you can and don't weigh every day. You are about to embark on a great ride to a healthier you. Congrats and you've got this!!

Best wishes - you will do great! I second the pillow recommendation. I forgot mine and just asked the nurse if I could take one from the hospital. She said absolutely - she gives them away all of the time. :-)

Get up and walk as soon as they let you. It will help with pain, gas and tiredness.

Sip on water/ice chips frequently

Stay off the scale, it will only depress you. Wait at least a week, so all the Water weight is gone.

Beware you will not be able to drink much when you get home, be patient it will come.

Take pain pills at night so you can sleep good.

Enjoy your new life !!

I have the same fear, like I'm going to work so hard and get no where..I pray that is not the case. So far nothing tastes good and I'm unsure if if I'm hungry or satisfied, not used to the feelings yet. I'm wondering how in the world I'm going to get in all this Protein in one day!? Any advice?

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
