could it be meno-pause ??

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone, First of all I love my band and I am very thrilled with the weight I have lost so far. I keep a little bi-monthly journal that tells the date from day one, how many weeks, how many lbs. lost and when I have had my fills. I know the loss has slowed down alot (1st. 4months 34lbs...second 4months 13lbs) but I was sitting and looking at it this morning and realized for the first time that the lesser loss coinsides with the fact that at age 52 I haven't had a period for 4 months !! I think that the weight loss has made my periods stop because I know that the heavier you are the more apt you are to produce estrogen or I have been told that. I have been peri-menopausal for over 5 yrs but still having periods. Has anyone else had theirs stop and then slowed down losing ?? I am not in a huge hurry but would still love to get at least another 25 off by my year anniversary in March and I don't want to set an unrealistic goal for myself because I feel like such a winner right now and don't want to lose that feeling of success. Thanks for input !!

I worry about going into menopause because of surgery, too. I had a partial hyster several years ago and have been doing the peri-pause for quite some time, but as far as I know I still have those hormones. I'm sure I'll notice when they go missing. :) So far, at about 5 months out, I haven't had an symptoms.

Is your only symptom that you haven't had a period? I would think if it were full-blown menopause that you'd have hot flashes and all that crazy stuff. Hope your loss speeds up again soon.

I'm 47, and my two post-band periods have been lighter than usual. It might be age, it might be the surgery, it might be my slight weight loss -- whatever the case, I'm delighted!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
