Does your insurance only allow 1 WLS?

Recommended Posts

When I called they said you will not be covered for an additional surgery. I found that intersting to say the least. Do some people have more than one WLS? I mean other than converting from a band to a sleeve/RNY. Obviously you can't have two Sleeve or RNY surgeries correct?

You can have your sleeve re-stapled smaller. You can also convert from sleeve to duodenal switch.

Not to be the voice of doom but many people need another surgery at some point. They really don't know how durable the sleeve is long term- meaning how it will do for people 10, 20, 30 years out or longer. There are teenagers and very young adults getting sleeved now.

Some are like me and had a band failure but some are ALSO like me and when they lose all of their weight and maintain for several years "forget" that obesity is a life-long battle - I am guilty of this - my band failed but I also did. Never again!

A small number of people with the sleeve end up revising to RNY due to acid reflux problems, also.

Mine said it only covered one WLS, but I just had a revision from the band to the sleeve 3 weeks ago and they covered it. My surgeon listed it as complications due to band failure and I only had to pay my maximum out of pocket for my insurance.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
