Discouraged-Thyroids suck!

Recommended Posts

Sorry for the language but my biggest fear has become a reality. I have battled an underactive thyroid for the past 15 yrs. I had radiation done on a goiter and now I think that has ruined my metabolism. I am a year and a half out from my lap band surgery. I have only lost 61 pounds. My band dr. Is frustrated as well. I have done everything right. I really don't eat more than 1100 calories a day. I have been walking like crazy. And in two months I have lost 1 pound. I am so discouraged. I feel like a huge failure. I know people look at me and think...man she should be skinnier. THYROID DISEASE SUCKS. Unless you have battled it you can't understand. Please tell me someone else has this struggle. ????

I have hypothyroid issues as well. Just got sleeved February of this year. Down 31 lbs since surgery (had a lower BMI than most), 41 lbs total. I still have 25 lbs to go. I feel like my weight loss is getting slowed down.

Well my dr. Is as discouraged as I am and has mentioned me getting the sleeve and removing the band to get the 50 lbs off that I have left. That is great you have lost that since Feb. Congrats!

Hello, I had to JUMP into this thread... I have also battled with an under active thyroid since 2000. I had radiation done also and have battled with my weight ever since. Extreme dieting, vigorous exercise just was giving me little result. The minute that I deviated from my regime, I gained that weight back and more. Also developed type II diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and Hugh cholesterol. I chose gastric bypass surgery due to My multiple medical conditions initial sleeve but after my surgeon advised me of the success rate of being taken off my multiple meds, & Cpap, plus my own research my decision was clear as day. I am 13 days post-op from my bypass surgery. Although I know I will always have thyroid disease, at least with my new tool, I can keep the weight off & not fall victim anymore of a SHOT metabolism due to thyroid disease. As you said @unbroken40... People have no clue what we go through!!! Best of luck & I hope you and drop pin like it's not have continued success which... Stay strong!!!

@@lisaanewme67 I wish you success in your journey. I have been on a roller-coaster and just want to be better. I get my blood checked every 4-6 weeks and meds for thyroid change every time. I thought with getting the lap band and losing the weight it would help my levels. It has not. Just make sure you keep on top of your thyroid through this. Xoxo

Thank you. I will. I met with my endocrinologist right before surgery & we decided that we would keep checking 4-6 weeks also. Prayerfully, my levels has been in the normal range at the dosage that I have been on. BUT I ended up with 4 other diagnosis that I had to chase after over this past year. I had been on that same roller coaster as you with my levels for about 14 years with dosage changes. Thanks I will be sure to STAY on top of it. I pray yours get steady soon... Keep me posted as will I!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
