Jealous and Frustrated :(

Recommended Posts

You want to get used to the habits. They want to see how you do in this time to ensure you will adhere to it in the long term. Most people have to wait 4-6 months to get a date so don't let this process get you down. I had to maintain my weight so that I could qualify & could not gain any before surgery. It's well worth the weight & the hard work.

My insurance allows you to choose a 3 month or 6 month multidisciplinary weight management program. I chose the three month program but have to admit it was rigorous. In the end it took 6 months from my initial consultation to surgery date.

My doc says insurances require this "waiting" period because the surgery is just a tool. We have to learn new eating habits or we'll eventually gain all the weight back. You can do this - it's well worth it. Good luck.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm down 19lbs in two months since the start of this thing. It's kind of starting to feel empowering! (obviously today has been a good day) ????

I was also frustrated with the long wait time, however, it wasn't til after I had the surgery did I understand the whole process.. I had a lot of problems with my initial sleeve surgery and ended up with the full bypass 3 months later. I would never have been physically or emotionally ready to deal with everything had I not had the 9 months to prepare with my Dr and dieticians.. Hang in there.. It is all worth it in the end.. I am 9 months out from my initial surgery and down 114lbs with 20 to go to my goal weight.. Even after everything I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!

My insurance requires 6 months of a supervised diet, which I am just starting the 3rd month of. I had the same feelings that you did, however, once I met with the NUT and I realized all the changes that needed to be made to be successful, I was happy to have the time to change all of my bad habits. Slow and steady wins the race. It will go by faster than you think!!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
