Any ideas of what can be used to replace sugar? I know some but aren't thrilled with them.

Splenda (sucralose), Truvia (stevia), Equal (aspartame), and Agave nectar to name a few. On some natural sugars like agave nectar be sure to read the nutritional information on it. My wife and I primarily use Splenda. We use to use stevia but it would tend to leave an after taste. It may very well be up to your taste what you'll like. Hope this helps. Brian

Something that I found about 7 months ago is Monk Fruit (extract). It's a plant extract like stevia, but I like it better. I have bottles of liquid under the Skinny Girl brand I found at Kroger (or you can find online at netrition.com or other places, I'm sure). I use it to sweeten my occasional tea (iced or hot).

I use Splenda and Monk Fruit as my sweeteners. stevia tastes funny to me and aspartame gives me Migraines and Xylitol leaves me gittery like I'm going hypoglycemic. Agave nectar is ok, but expensive.

I've been using the generic stevia, splenda and nutra-sweet in my coffee and iced tea.

I'll give the Monk Fruit stuff a try when I'm in the store again.

You can get a box of about 1000 packets of Stevia at costco. It's around $11.99. The other week they had a $3 instant coupon! The brand name for it is PureVia.

I thought agave nectar had a lot of calories and wasn't much better than sugar.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
