New here- looking for advice on lapband revision!

Thank you all for the advice! Sent my consult request in to Mass General & now I'm just waiting to hear back!

Another question for you- how do you get over the feeling of feeling like a failure because your first surgery didn't work or you didn't succeed? In having a hard time coming to terms with feeling okay about it! Thanks again.

I have never felt like a failure... I felt like the BAND failed me. Even more discouraging for me, I had made it to goal before my band slipped and started years of progressively worsening symptoms.

You are not a failure... it is more that you are NOT giving up. The Sleeve is NOTHING like the band IMO. It is everything I had hoped the band would be... effective and permanent.

Thanks so much for the kind words- I'm glad that I am making this decision for myself and finally look like the person I feel like inside!

I was banded in 2012 and lost about 80 lbs. But it got to the point where no matter how little or how much fill was in the band I would throw up everything I was supposed to eat. The only things that would stay down were Ritz crackers and ice cream. You don't lose weight on that.

I had the band removed and the sleeve done 22 days ago. I'm sorry I didn't do the sleeve to start with.

I would also get stabbing pains where the port was - the surgeon says that it was rubbing on a nerve most likely. And I hated getting that needle in my stomach.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
