Has anyone had mashed potatoes 2 weeks postop?

Recommended Posts

Are you still on full liquids? Can you wait to call your surgeon on Monday and ask? I know they will give you the go ahead a lot of times if you ask. What about Soup? Are you allowed that yet? Maybe it will satiate you until you are allowed to move on to the next stage.

In my second week I was on full liquids, and I had mashed potatoes because I made them really soupy and no lumps or anything! So it was basically like a liquid, right? If you are on full liquids I'd maybe try cream of potato Soup in a blender though, slightly safer! Just my two cents though!! And don't worry, I'm a couple weeks you'll forget all about this agony, I'm almost four weeks now and that is but a distant memory ???? hang in there!!

Just cant do another Protein shake right now.

Call your nutritionist before changing your diet. I had 2 weeks of full liquids. What got me through was using the unflavored Protein powder and adding it to broth or Soup with no chunky bits. I was able to still meet my Protein needs and stay on track. It was a welcome change from milk based, sweet shakes.

Mash potatoes were allowed on the soft food stage, but I never ate them since it's all carbs, no protein. I could only eat 2 ounces so I wanted to make sure every bite counted.

Which unflavored protein powder did you use? I'm researching for my surgery in July.

My surgeon only required 7 days of liquids. I had mashed potatoes with melted cheddar cheese on my 8th day, added milk to make it a little runny, and didn't have any problems. I even told him and he said that was fine, as long as it's runny. I only had about 2 tablespoons and felt full.

I love love love pureed cauliflower, with plain greek yogurt mixed in and shredded cheese (& garlic and chopped onion and crumbled bacon) I made the best loaded baked cauliflower ever, and it saved me during those days. Tastes just like loaded baked potato!! If you can't have the bacon, just pick it out. But it flavors the cauliflower very well!! You can google the recipe, it's a pretty popular recipe.

My surgeon had mashed potatoes on my list of pureed foods which I was allowed to have anytime after day 3.

You'll be fine. I ate them only until I could handle other foods because in the grand scheme of things mashed potatoes are not a great food option... but when you're dying for some real food I am sure you will tolerate them just fine.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
