Hello,

I am just about 2 months after surgery and everything could not be going better. I noticed from pictures and family that my posture is off, kinda slumped over from bearing all the weight. I started all this at 335 and I am now down to 270lbs. Would going to the chiropractor help this issue along with the weight training from the gym? Thanks ahead for any advice and tips.

Wayne

If you have been overweight for some time the extra weight may have affected your posture. A general consult with a good chiropractor can't hurt. They should take initial xrays and discuss with you anything they see. Use your judgement if you think they have validity and can help.

Also look to see if your posture has improved so far or if it is staying the same. Hope that helps! Good luck and congrats on the loss so far!

I noticed I'm slouching more. I think the surgery affects your stomach muscles and/or core and you have to work at standing tall. I just try to pay attention to it and straighten up!

I've started a core conditioning class at the Y. It has made a big difference in how I sit, comfort riding a bike, walking.... everything. My core muscles were not strong enough to hold my big body comfortably. One of the first things I noticed as the weight started to drop was my tailbone hurting. Sitting up straight stopped that pain, and it only happened as I built the muscle to sit properly.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
