Hi! I'm Debi, scheduled for surgery June 2nd. Excited and nervous.

Well...alot nervous..I.V 's terrify me..not just the needle but the whole process! I have vasel vagal syncope. .the surgeon said I can't have anything to relax me before the IV Cause it can make BP drop. Any suggestions?

I've been thinking about WLS for 13 years..HW 220..5'1".SW 197.

I finally got serious this January after a friend had Gbp. I didn't want everything moved around and less side effects.

Good to meet you all????

Ask the nurse if she can use lidocaine when she starts your IV.

welcome and hydrate and drink as much Water as possible as long as you can the night before surgery - I hated not being able to drink anything waiting for the leak test. To me it was the worst. I was one of the lucky ones... no pain post-op or nausea. I have had good ride so far with very minimal "issues". My sleeve is my new bestie and I plan on treating her very good :D

Hey Deb

I was sleeved in 5/18/15 and I suffer from anxiety. I was very upfront with my nurses before they started prep work and asked them to talk with me about things that would make me happy if they sensed my tension. They spoke about my children and summer approaching.

Also ask for someone light handed to do the IV with a gentle touch.

The anesthesiologist came and spoke to me before taken to the op room and I also told him about my anxiety and he explained that the nurses can call him as soon as I am in the op room and he can give me something right away for anxiety.

I had even asked that they don't robe my glasses under I was actually asleep - and they said ok.

Sure enough when I got on the table I felt the anxiety coming on and the anesthesiologist came and started talking to me. He asked how old were my kids and their names and told me to take deep breaths.

I don't even remember answering him passed the second of my four kids. I woke up in recovery. :)

I say this to say just be honest that day with your team - your "new BFF's" I called them. They can help you if you communicate with them.

I was happy the IV was in place so that he could quickly deliver what my body needed to calm down and go to sleep.

I understand how scary it is believe me. We are here for you! Talk yourself through and inhale exhale. I hope my experience helped even a little bit. Can't wait for your update post op.

Hi, @@DebiDoo! I haven't had surgery yet (June 15th for me), but I also have a CRAZY sensitive vaso-vagal response, and I pass out and/or throw up even when I get a shot.

I've found that what helps me is to be lying down, ideally with my feet raised (e.g., with a pillow or folded blanket under them) when I have blood drawn or get a shot, or have an IV put in. Don't be embarrassed to tell the hospital staff--they've dealt with it all, and I'm sure they'd rather take a few more minutes to make you comfortable than deal with a panic attack, you passed out, or cleaning up puke! I always look away when they're doing it, and if possible have my husband next to me to squeeze the bejesus out of his hand--I didn't start out with a needle phobia, but as I've had such bad experiences, I've developed one! And if they are having you get up and stand or walk at all after putting in the IV, tell them you need a few minutes. I stay laying down for 5 or 10 minutes, then I slowly sit up and sit for 5-10 minutes, and then I'm good.

Good luck! And tell that silly vagus nerve to chill out! :D

I just came from a support group. I want the bypass but I have scar tissue and mesh in my abdominal area so I HAVE to get the sleeve. At the meeting I heard a lot of negatives about the sleeve and I'm really depressed now. I need to hear some positive stuff about the sleeve. But I need honesty

What sorts of negative things did you hear about the sleeve? It would be helpful if you could share this. As you look through this forum you'll find an enormous amount of information that may help relieve your fears.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
