What a difference a year makes

Recommended Posts

I always dreaded Memorial Day weekend. The weather turned nice, I pulled out my summer clothes, they didn't fit, and I would kick myself for not having "done something about my weight" over the winter. Last year my size 20 capris didn't fit (went out and had to buy size 22s). Today I was at Kohls trying on a pair of size 10 shorts and they fit. Still in an XL in some things and a 12 in most of my clothes, but a 10 fit on my body!!

I attended my first meeting for WLS in June last year and had my surgery a few months later. It has been an amazing year. I have lost a little over 100 pounds. I am run/walking my first 5K in a few weeks. Most of my old clothes are gone from my closet. My thighs don't rub together. I don't cringe when I see a photo of myself. Had lunch with an old friend and they literally did not recognize me when I sat down at the table. I am off my HBP medicine after a decade of taking it. I am HAPPY.

I still struggle with food. Ate ice cream last night too close to bedtime and was throwing it up a few hours later. Still don't work out as much as I should or drink as much Water as I should but I am DOING IT and I am moving in the right direction. I am SO HAPPY I did this. Thankfully I did not have any major issues and overall it has been a very positive experience,

For those reading this board and still thinking "should I do it" or "about to do it" - ask yourself where will I be in a year and can WLS help me be in a better place. If the answer is yes, then move ahead.

For once, I am looking forward to seeing where I will be next Memorial Day. Hoping when I try on my clothes from this summer, they will be a little loose. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
