Feeling Heart broken and defeated

Recommended Posts

My gastric sleeve surgery was 4 months and 7 days ago and I have only lost 15 lbs!!!! I was 193 at surgery weigh and now I am 178!!! I run every other day and eat approx 800 calories and lots of protein!! I don't know what to do! I feel so upset and defeated! I have lost in 4 MONTHS. What some have lost in one week or one month!!!! Is it because I was a lower BMI or am I not eatting enough?? Feeling like this was just a Huge waste of money!!! Hoping someone can give me some insight!! Thanks!!!

First off, the lower starting weight is a factor for sure.

We are going to need more info to help. Are you approximating or actually tracking your calorie, Protein, and carb intake?

How much are you running? Depending on that, you may not be eating enough calories to compensate for the exercise. I know that happened to me. Once I upped my calories to compensate for running 2 miles every other day, the weight started coming off again.

From what I understand the lower your BMI the slower your going to lose.

Currently I am 174lbs (8Months out and down 81lbs) but I'm taking in 1000-1100Cal a day and burning anywhere from 800-1000 4days a week at the Gym and I've been seeing a consistent weight loss of 5-6lbs a month since 4months out.

First, have you discussed your progress with your surgeon or NUT? They know your history and can give you the BEST advice. You may actually need to consume more calories to compensate for what you are converting to engery and muscle. Also make sure you are getting plenty of Water in to boot. You need much more than the 64 oz when you are working out especially vigorously.

I'd definitely suggest talking with your surgeon. I was slow BMI starting out (200 pre surgery diet, 190 day of surgery) and am 3 months out and currently weigh 163. It's been slow, but steady. I'm aiming for 125 (I'm short!) so still have some ways to go.

How tall are you? Are you following your surgeons plan?

Yeah, that's unusual.

What everyone else said ... talk to your surgeon and be very sure your food intake is only 800 calories.

Good luck. The good news is that this isn't over yet!

What's your Protein and Water intake? Also any loss in my book is a success

I think there has been some good advice here- and there are factors, as I'm becoming familiar with these boards that affect your loss. Calories in, calories out, Water, Water, water, Protein intake, exercise and type of exercise- are you adding new exercises? walking, biking, stairs? breaking a sweat? to name a few. Also 15 pounds in 4 months averages to a little less than 1 pound a week. I've been told the average weight loss evens out at 1-2 a week. So maybe with trying a few things here and there and some talks with your doc and nutritionist you will find a combination that takes it off more quickly. That said, at 3.75 a month in one year you would be down close to 50 pounds. I understand wanting it faster- I feel the same way- but also think you are not gaining either and hopefully making new healthy eating habits for yourself and those are tow very invaluable things to me. Hope to hear back from you here...and hope things speed up a little for you. :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
