Pre-op diet is a b***h

My surgery is scheduled for May 11th, only 7 days away! This pre-op diet is a real b***h though... my surgeon required a 2 week Protein shake diet, and only a bit of grilled chicken if I had a headache...

I will admit, because I must keep myself accountable, I have cheated 3 times. Tortilla chips on day 2, 4 oreos on day 4, and half a milky way on day 5... As a disclaimer I did not intentionally buy these foods or have them around but I live with roommates and these were all things they put in the "freebie" basket. I walked past them once, twice, a dozen times... but eventually I caved.

Now that being said, I don't think I've done a horrible job overall as I have lost 11.2 pounds in 7 days. And since the last hiccup I have been perfect. I suppose I wanted to write this topic because I have this overwhelming sense of "I JUST WANT TO EAT!" So much so that I can't wait for the surgery to happen because that is sooner I get to eat normal food. I wanted to leave the food addict behind but it seems to be lurking within me more than ever. I find myself watching food videos, looking at grocery store ads online, etc.

My question to you all is... how many of you feel this way? how many of you felt this way prior to surgery and how are dealing with things now?

Listerine is your friend. It's nasty but it works. Gargle with it, use the pocket spray, suck on the breath strips. NOTHING tastes good after a healthy dose of it so it will kill your cravings fo

I suddenly am like oh my gosh i need cheesecake and a cheeseburger oh an sushi. Lol But I also want to see my vajj again so no cheating haha

  • It was hard. I cheated once, eating a 1/2 of a quesadilla. And I made a conscious decision to eat the night we celebrated my husband's 40th birthday. Did perfectly fine otherwise, and lost 14#'s and t

liquid diet day 4: just purchased Swansons tortilla soup base broth... HEAVEN... it was a party in my mouth and a wonderful change to regular broth ... (I heard the hot/sour broth is pretty good too!)

Highly recommend it!

I can't find it at any grocery stores in my area yet. ????
Oops. Have u tried walmart or target?
I totally forgot to check there. Lol thanks

I really wanted to try this. However they don't list the ingredients on the label and when I wrote the company they refuse to divulge it saying it's their own "secret recipes". <_< I can't risk another 4 day coma because of an allergic reaction to one of their secret ingredients.

I know this is tmi but I had my surgery this past Wednesday still no bowel movement. I'm MISERABLE will this cramping ever go away. Ugh

You should let your surgeon know, maybe they can prescribe or at least suggest something for you. I take prescription Colace (Doc-Q-Lace) and have for years since I also take Morphine...bonus, it comes in liquid. I have also seen lots of suggestions for Metamucil or the like (low sugar) and bought some ahead of time...just make sure there is NO stimulant in it...want a bit more natural so you don't hurt your new tummy by straining :) Good luck for your poops :P lol

My doctor had me on colace from day 1. I am thankful because I had my first BM 3 days after I came home and I've been regular as clockwork ever since.

I also just found it on Amazon...looks like a good deal and a few other flavors too :)

I thought it was kinda priced high for broth, so I never bought from them. Usually they are cheapest to get from. Love me some Amazon Prime shopping lol

True, price wise, but if you can't find it in a local store, it's a consideration, plus it's for 3 cartons....and a few of them online on Amazon show the ingredients and stuff...Swanson has an Amazon store so you can check there...my biggest worry with them though is the sodium...my legs swell with too much

I totally understand. I started my liquid diet on May 1only thing I did was chew a piece of chicken and then spit it out. I felt bad. The only thing that keeps me going is a photo of me at 240lb. It was not good. Stay strong!!!! My Sx date is May 14!

Maybe I'm missing it because I'm not seeing the ingredients listed. I see the nutritional info but no actual ingredients. Not on Amazon and not on their official website.

Wait, whuuuuuuut? I thought it was law to list all ingredients on food packaging.

These are the two pictures I found on Amazon.

Thanks, I looked and looked and literally could not find it. I cannot figure out for the life why I could not locate it. It also doesn't explain their email reply to me.

Here's the email I received (FYI - I wasn't asking for coupons, just ingredients.)

Mine was 2 weeks of 5 medifast shakes per day and a cup of chicken broth (bouillon). I also cheated twice. I had a Chicago style hot dog one evening and a snack (small) bag of cheese puffs another day. It was brutal, but I lost 17 lbs before my surgery on 5/5.

I get grumpy when I'm hungry. Fortunately the hunger pangs went away after about 5 days.

Yep, pre op diet sucks. Here's my good, bad, and ugly:

The good - I haven't experienced true hunger, just head hunger. And I've been on the diet 4 days and have lost 6 pounds so far.

The bad - the head hunger sucks. I am dodging people and food. I miss my normal weekend meals involving food, drinks, and friends!

The ugly - I've had bad gas since I've been on the pre op diet. Thankfully I live alone!

Hey you got some coupons out of at least lol. Sounds like an automated response.

as crazy as this may seem, my dad had the sleeve done a year and 4 months ago. when he got home he was having awful pains in his chest, he thought he was having a heart attack. turns out, two of the staples had come undone and everything he consumed was just leaking into his body. When he finally got home he had to do the shakes for the estimated amount of time, I told him if you start to feel overwhelmed because you cant stuff your face tell me and ill do exactly what your doing. I drank only the shakes and not even having the surgery yet I couldn't do it for more then two days!! It was very difficult. I go for my surgery June 3rd and even though it was difficult then I feel because i'll have this extra push I'm confident ill pull through! good luck to you :)

Actually, now that I think about it, I never even received the coupons! No matter, it appears that chicken stock is in all of these so I wouldn't have eaten them anyway.
