    Pre-op diet is a b***h

Well I'm up to about 55 oz per day now, but more than a mouthful hurts. I can't handle cold anymore and oddly, I can't stand the taste of crystal light anymore. I used to drink about 120 oz per day of it.
  2. Yes, I had a band put in in 2008. I lost 140 lbs, and then the band slipped very badly. It was removed in 2010 and couldn't be repositioned because of scar tissue. It worked well for me because when I'm not hungry, I don't eat. I'm 19 days post-op with a sleeve.

Oh there's a simple solution for that, lol. 8 oz bottles of water. You get the same psychological boost of downing it, they're easier to carry, and that's about all you can handle at a time anyway. I reuse plastic bottles. I live in NYC, so we have really good tap water. I refill bottles from the tap for about a week and then recycle them, because the plastic will start to dissolve. And yeah, I'm used to drinking half a dozen crystal light drinks a day - 20oz each.
  4. What happens if you eat until stuffed? You don't lose weight, and you risk stretching your new stomach out. The removal of the grehlin hormone production site helps. I'm finding I don't go from normal to hungry to famished - I go from normal to normal to famished. There doesn't seem to be much tummy rumbling either (of course now that I'm thinking about it, my stomach just let off a grumble, so it must be psychological). About every 4 hours, I need food. For example: breakfast-an egg, lunch a slice of ham and a slice of cheese (a non- bread sandwich), mid-afternoon a yogurt, dinner 3 Swedish meatballs, evening pudding. But, I'm still home, so when I get more active next week, this may change. Still, I'm only eating about 500-800 calories a day right now.
  5. It doesn't necessarily make it easy, but it makes it doable.

To be perfectly frank, you're going to have trouble eating and drinking enough, so it will be challenging in the exact opposite way. I'm 18 days post op and I can eat a total of two Swedish meatballs or 1/3 of a hamburger patty, or the equivalent volume of chicken of 2 chicken mc nuggets (grilled chicken, not fried) I'm struggling to drink 48 oz of fluids, when 100-120oz was my norm before.

Didn't you have an ultrasound? That's how they determined mine. The tech actually measured it on-screen.
  8. Take their advice. I had mine 5/5 and two days ago I overdid it by moving a chair. I feel like I have a knife sticking out of my biggest incision and I'm back on my day-3 pain meds. The doctor said "don't do that". Take it easy. I felt great a couple days ago.

    Pre-op diet is a b***h

Well the 8 weeks to recover should be plenty of time. The incisions are healed by 6 weeks. A month is brutal. I'd ask your doctor if it can be shortened, or if you can have a modified diet for 2 weeks followed by liquid for 2 weeks.
  10. I have different insurance now, but they covered it as if it was my first time. 6 month diet history, yada-yada. My BMI was 45 so I was approved. My doctor is particular, and she doesn't do revisions (or people who continue to smoke or who don't lose wait while getting ready for surgery). The only reason they performed my surgery (and I'm now at higher risk because I'm older) was that I had lost about 70% of my excess body weight on the band - in other words, it worked very well for me, AND I only had it taken out because it was medically necessary. Counting my 2 week pre-op liquid diet, I'm down 35 lbs already. BMI 40.5

    Can't do anymore protein!

The reason I'm here is that there is no such thing as "to sweet". Lol

    Pre-op diet is a b***h

i know it's hard, but don't cheat. You want this surgery. Your body won't be hurt by fasting for a few days. Try medifast shakes (no solid food) for a week and you should lose a lot. The hunger will drive you insane for like 2 days, but after 4 days you don't have hunger pangs or rumbling anymore. I lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks having 5 shakes per day in 8oz of skim milk each. broth made from a bouillon cube was my treat each day. Med1fast.com The strawberry and orange cream flavors were good, the chocolate was blech, and the mocha and cherry pomegranate were vile. Get 5 boxes and you're good for a week.
  14. I had 5 in a line straight across from my left to my right, BUT they had to work around all the scars from my old lap-band installation and removal. My daughter used to dot-to-dot them with her fingertip. Lol

4 weeks post and I still PB

I had a band removed 5 years ago because of slippage, and it left a permanent stricture in the stomach where it had been placed (as if I still had a loose band there). I'm 8 days post op for a sleeve and I just had an upper GI. The stricture is making my stomach still work like it has a band above the new tiny stomach. Right now it's an issue because it's very tight, but I'm hoping the inflammation will drop and I will not need it dilated. Have you had an Upper GI to see what is really going on? Mine was specifically to check for leaks and my doctor does it as a routine step. In your case it might tell them what is happening as you sip in the morning (because they perform it after an 8 hour fast). Also, it was just a few swallows of the liquid, not the huge cup of contrast.
  16. Hang in there. It will get better. Your infection is bad timing, but it'll pass. I was only up to 3oz / hour after 2 days, but all of a sudden, the inflammation in the stomach dropped and I shot up to 10oz at day 5.
  17. Update: after 5 days my Fluid intake went up. As of yesterday I'm hungry. The pain from the incisions isn't too bad now and should be gone by next week. I actually don't hurt at all right now.

Costco Premiere Protein shakes taste pretty good. 11oz 30g protein.

    Pre-op diet is a b***h

Mine was 2 weeks of 5 medifast shakes per day and a cup of chicken broth (bouillon). I also cheated twice. I had a Chicago style hot dog one evening and a snack (small) bag of cheese puffs another day. It was brutal, but I lost 17 lbs before my surgery on 5/5. I get grumpy when I'm hungry. Fortunately the hunger pangs went away after about 5 days.

    Confused

Update: my band had slipped so far that my entire stomach had herniated through it. I had emergency surgery to reposition it, but the scar tissue was too much so they removed it. I regained about 140 lbs in the four years after that and just got a sleeve revision last week.

    Confused

I've had my band for a year now, and I haven't had a fill since February. I lost weight at a steady 10 lbs per month until September. In September, I had an instance of vomiting and then had trouble eating anything for a period of a week or so. It went away about three days before my scheduled visit to the doctor. I was at 235 then. I completely stopped losing weight and assumed that I had plateaued. Two weeks ago, I overate (cheese from two slices of double-cheese pizza instead of one slice) and regurgitated it. That started several days of pain where EVERYTHING was getting stuck. Even liquids were giving me problems before they would go down. In addition, every time I fell asleep, I regurgitated a small amount. I normally sleep on my side. I turned on my stomach and I could sleep with no issue. I was prepared to go to the doctor to have some of my fill removed and suddenly I was all better. Everything was back to normal. Two days ago, it started again. I feel overfull. I have diarrhea. My stomach is in knots. I'm burping constantly (and it smells awful). Today I had some Crystal Light (the citrus one with caffeine) with no issue and then later had an Ice coffee. That gave me gas and pain. I also had a bite of a Subway BMT on flatbread. A little spicy, with the salami and pepperoni. It sent my stomach into fits. A little while ago, I was feeling better and hungry, so I got out a pudding pack (comfort food?) and it was fine for the first couple spoons, but now I'm feeling acidy and I can feel the food ready to come up. I've lost another 5 lbs in the last few days. I'm also under a bit of stress for about the last two months because of some money problems and I have now lost my insurance. I skipped my 6 week checkup because I hadn't had any problems and I had stopped losing weight. What the heck is going on? Do I need to have some of my 7 ounces taken out? If so, how much? I didn't start to lose weight at all until my last ounce was put in. I don't want to gain weight but I'm afraid I'll gain it as fast as I lost it. I also don't have the money to have expensive tests run - I'm jobless and my insurance is lapsed. Do I need to just go on liquids for a few days to let everything calm down and relax and unkink? This band has worked so well for me. They told me last time that they had originally set a goal of 255 for me and not told me, and I was already down to 235.

You know you lost weight when

When you can tie your shoes in the car - with the seatbelt on.
  23. My band was removed in 2010 and my sleeve surgery was 5 days ago. Wound recovery is about the same as the last times (maybe quicker), but I'm in pain from stomach inflammation. I'm just now up to 48oz of fluids per day. Every swallow is accompanied by a gas pain. My doctors reviewed me and said that I don't have a stricture, just a lot of inflammation. I was in my early 40s when I got my band, but now I'm almost 50, so that's probably a major contributor. So right now, I'm miserable from a week-long upset stomach, but today I'm getting my first feelings of hunger. After my upper GI on Tuesday I'm going to try a scrambled egg, but until then, I'm still on liquids. Counting the 2-week pre-op diet, I haven't had solid food in three weeks.

I lost 160 lbs and had no problem keeping it off. Why would it be the wrong procedure?

    Confused

Update: I gained a total of 35 lbs. they slowly put everything back, and I got my weight down to 225. Then, in May, I had a vomiting episode that started two months of troubles and pain and vomiting. I was decompressed from 6.25 to 4.25, then to 2 and then finally to completely empty in the hopes that this would allow the inflammation to go down and get me back to normal. I also switched to non-mechanical food. On Labor day, NOTHING would go down (even liquids), so I went into the emergency room. At that point I was 210. They admitted me to the hospital and started me on intraveinous fluids and ran a cat scan. By the next morning I weighed 217 (same scale). That's 7 lbs of saline&glucose Later that day they performed an upper GI. It turned out that my band had slipped. The right side was still sewn in properly, but the left had detached and my ENTIRE STOMACH had slipped up through the band. The band was now vertical and was cutting off the very lowest part of my stomach where the intestines start. They had me in the operating room two hours later and they tried to reposition the band, but weren't able to, so they removed it. It's now been about three weeks, and my appetite has returned full-force and I'm having a very hard time eating healthy. I'm at 235 already and without medical insurance, I'm likely to keep climbing. When the band was in, I never felt hungry, so I'd eat a small portion and stop. Now... :-(
