Pre-op diet is a b***h

My surgery is scheduled for May 11th, only 7 days away! This pre-op diet is a real b***h though... my surgeon required a 2 week Protein shake diet, and only a bit of grilled chicken if I had a headache...

I will admit, because I must keep myself accountable, I have cheated 3 times. Tortilla chips on day 2, 4 oreos on day 4, and half a milky way on day 5... As a disclaimer I did not intentionally buy these foods or have them around but I live with roommates and these were all things they put in the "freebie" basket. I walked past them once, twice, a dozen times... but eventually I caved.

Now that being said, I don't think I've done a horrible job overall as I have lost 11.2 pounds in 7 days. And since the last hiccup I have been perfect. I suppose I wanted to write this topic because I have this overwhelming sense of "I JUST WANT TO EAT!" So much so that I can't wait for the surgery to happen because that is sooner I get to eat normal food. I wanted to leave the food addict behind but it seems to be lurking within me more than ever. I find myself watching food videos, looking at grocery store ads online, etc.

My question to you all is... how many of you feel this way? how many of you felt this way prior to surgery and how are dealing with things now?

Listerine is your friend. It's nasty but it works. Gargle with it, use the pocket spray, suck on the breath strips. NOTHING tastes good after a healthy dose of it so it will kill your cravings fo

I suddenly am like oh my gosh i need cheesecake and a cheeseburger oh an sushi. Lol But I also want to see my vajj again so no cheating haha

  • It was hard. I cheated once, eating a 1/2 of a quesadilla. And I made a conscious decision to eat the night we celebrated my husband's 40th birthday. Did perfectly fine otherwise, and lost 14#'s and t

I am struggling with the preop diet too! I'm on day 5 and I'm down 6 lbs so far. I haven't cheated and I think at this point I can make it but I am SOOOOO irritable! Today will be rough since we have to go to a birthday party. That means everyone will be snacking all day and eating cake and ice cream. Yesterday one of my colleagues did a cake gender reveal foe their baby and I had to get out of there right after they cut it so I wouldn't be tempted. I'm just trying to stay on the message boards to keep me focused on why I'm doing this and how amazing life will be at a healthy weight. The before an after pics help and also I can't think of a time I've ever lost 6 lbs in 5 days so seeing the scale move had helped. We can do it!!!!!!

@@vsg_queen24 - Are you on a stool softener of any kind? Colace, benefiber, miralax to name a few. Call your doc and discuss.

I had to use a suppository after surgery. It had been 4 days without a BM. That took care of the immediate problem.

Now I use 3 tbsp of benefiber per day. One each in my protein shakes, and a 3rd in a glass of crystal light. This is what works for me.

I am having my surgery on June 4.I am starting the prediet around the 21.I am thinking of going low carbohydrate, high protein the week before to shrink my hunger. My job requires you to be thinking quickly I don't want to be fatiqed or foggy .I had the band 7 years ago and did this approach any advice.

I know this is tmi but I had my surgery this past Wednesday still no bowel movement. I'm MISERABLE will this cramping ever go away. Ugh

Ask your dr if you can take a little milk of magnesia.

It’s hard. It’s really hard. And good for you for sticking with it. You’re doing fine, and that’s a reasonable amount of weight to lose.

The pre-op diet is good practice for later. It helps you learn some self-control (at least it did for me) and it gives you the confidence that you can do it if you really need and want to. Good luck on Monday with your surgery!

I have my surgery in two days and I cheated today I feel horrible

You are a-okay! Mine is in a week and I've cheated 3 times during these Protein shakes! Just make sure if you're going to cheat off it, choose HEALTHY options! You're doing just fine! Don't kick yourself when you're so close!

Don't feel bad, I have seen that many have cheated and I admit I have also (have still lost about 6 lbs. which is a bonus I say!), trying with healthy options but not always...forgive yourself and move on, don't beat yourself up over it...look how long we have all lived with food issues..a 2 week diet really won't change that, this whole thing is a process...plus we wouldn;t be having surgery if we could do it all on our own (at least for me..I have horrible will power! lol) This surgery, for me, is a tool to help with my journey to healthy...getting sick and such is a GREAT deterrent for me...so there is that. I say, if you cheat...forgive yourself, forget it and try (important word) to do better :) Good Luck all around!! My surgery is this coming Wed and I have been researching bariatric surgery for over 15 years, so this is a long time coming for me (really long story) and I am so excited...but getting a little nervous...I have OCD so I have already packed, have lists everywhere! lol Ok, done preaching! LOL Good Luck and Blessings All!

You should let your surgeon know, maybe they can prescribe or at least suggest something for you. I take prescription Colace (Doc-Q-Lace) and have for years since I also take Morphine...bonus, it comes in liquid. I have also seen lots of suggestions for Metamucil or the like (low sugar) and bought some ahead of time...just make sure there is NO stimulant in it...want a bit more natural so you don't hurt your new tummy by straining :) Good luck for your poops :P lol

liquid diet day 4: just purchased Swansons tortilla soup base broth... HEAVEN... it was a party in my mouth and a wonderful change to regular broth ... (I heard the hot/sour broth is pretty good too!)

Highly recommend it!
