Not losing. Not peeing

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I was sleeved on 4/8. I've always been a drinker getting at least 90 ounces of fluids a day, primarily Water. Fortunately I was able to drink just as much after surgery. I am still getting about 90 ounces a day of Water and crystal light. Again, 80% is water. However I am not peeing as much. Probably only 4 times a day as opposed to pre-surgery peeing of 10-12 times a day. I've asked my NUT and she said it's fine as long as my urine is clear and my mouth isn't dry. Why does this happen? Where does all the Fluid go?

That brings me to my next question. I'm not losing weight and I wonder if I'm retaining all this Fluid somewhere? I'm not swollen in my hands or feet. I lost 22 pounds since surgery but nothing in almost 2 weeks. It's really discouraging since I'm following the diet and also walking about 5 miles per day. I don't understand it. I have a fear that this is it. I've lost 20 pounds and I'm not going to lose any more. I've read posts that there is a "3 week stall" but I've passed that point. I see the doc on Tuesday for my one month post op and will talk to him as well but I wanted some opinions from people who have gone through it.

Once I lost the first thirty pounds, I peed less frequently because there was not so much pressure on my bladder in spite of drinking 80 ounces a day. My third week stall lasted two weeks on its on and then thescale started moving again.

Not to be gross, but are you BM's loose? You can also "lose" Water that way. I feel for you with the "stall", that must be frusturating. I am only 1 week post op, so don't know about that yet. Keep your head up.

did anyone else get constipated on the pre op diet? I have been taking flaxseed and had to stop last week and everything else stopped too. I feel bloated and surgery is Wednesday.

No. Are you on liquids only? You could mix up Miralax in your beverages.

I would mention it to your surgeon and team.

I've been off liquids for weeks. I'm eating soft foods now. tuna, scrambled eggs... no problems with BM'S. Just not losing. Dunno.

Omg I had or is having the same problem. I pee maybe twice a day and I don't know what. Now I know for a fact I am NOT drinking enough AT ALL. Still I drank the same amount before surgery and went more. I have no clue why my body is doing this. Now I had one week of a stall but that was because I was not eating enough.

Actually, you're probably not past the Week-3 Stall yet. It can last 2-3 weeks, so you may be right in the middle or towards the end of it. If you haven't already, read this and check out the link. It may make you feel better.

Congratulations! You have reached The Dreaded Week-3 Stall. It's perfectly normal, and just about all of us have suffered through it. You're not crazy, and your doctor didn't screw up. In fact, you might not lose any weight for two weeks or even longer. But don't worry – after that, the pounds will start falling off if you stick to your program. And, the inches will continue to come off even while the scale isn't budging. Here's a good article that explains why it happens and why we all have to go through it. Hang in there. Pretty soon it'll be in the rear-view mirror and you'll be dropping weight again!

(Apologies to BP regulars who have seen this repeatedly, but it's a big deal to those who are going through it!)

I did start losing again. Thanks everyone for the replies. I've noticed that I'm retaining Water because I'm no longer on a water pill for my blood pressure. I was switched to one without. That probably accounts for the extra Fluid and I haven't adjusted yet.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
