May 13th - And I haven't told anybody.....

Recommended Posts

Are any of you struggling with telling people you're having weight loss surgery? I have only told my boyfriend because he's taking me. I really don't want anyone to know, but I also don't want to lie when questioned how I lost the weight. Any of you dealing with this too?

I was like that didn't tell anybody except a few for five years but at the end I realised it's much better to tell people because to me it's like a scale when you know people know about it it keeps you from ever putting the wait back on as you know they will judge you heavily.

Weight not wait lol

I'm with you...I've been such a yo-yo that I'm kind of anticipating people's reaction to my upcoming weight loss as "Oh, there she goes again! The magically shrinking woman. Wonder how long it will take before it heads back up again". I may tell people at some point, but for now I've just told anyone that needs to know that I'm having a hiatal hernia corrective surgery. Which is true....its just only half the story. Of course my husband and close family know, but that's it. It's my business, and if I choose to share later I will. My surgery is WEDNESDAY!! I'm so excited. :)

I felt the same way at first, I told my husband and adult children, then in the last week I started to tell a few others. I know the word will probably get out but I am ok with that. At first I thought I don't need anyone being negative, I just want positive thoughts. So if anyone is negative I just cut them off and said positive thoughts only please and so far its been good. Good luck Lisa!

I just had my surgery on 5/18 and I didn't tell many of my friends, co-workers, especially on social media. I did share it with my close family members, friends and husband. He did tell a few of our friends which I wasn't happy about at first but they ended up being supportive. I feel like you guys, where people will watch if I keep it off and also there will be those that judge me by thinking I took the "easy" way out and I'm not ready to deal with that negativity. It is hard to tell your boss and co-workers you had surgery but not what for. I thought of saying "stomach surgery" or "abdomen surgery" but what's the point? That will lead to more questions and I don't want to lie. I agree with you guys, it's nobody's business and it's a personal choice if we tell or not.

I'm the same way. The stigma that WLS has is so iffy. The first negative I got I stopped sharing the fact that I was having surgery at all. Once I did (5/4/15) and was on liquids for 2.5 weeks it was kind of hard to keep it secret that I couldn't join in the eating. I still haven't gone Facebook official yet. Don't know what I'm waiting for. Maybe a significant drop in size. Who knows?

That one negative I got a few months before WLS was my only one. Everyone and all comments have all been super positive and excited for me!!! So happy for that.

Side note: It is for sure NOT the easy way out as I put that to rest today at a Hibachi/Chinese buffet. Having to skip over everything on that buffet to settle on Soup and a half of a baked potato I told the server to charge me as a kid for I couldn't pile my plate like the normal customers.

My surgery was May 15th. I told most everyone just because I knew the recovery was going to be awhile and our kids would tell their friends, so I just was open about it from the time I had the date booked. Just told a few family members before the surgery date was booked. Most my friends have been very supportive and caring, bringing meals, helping my husband get the kids to and from end-of-the-school year-activities, etc.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
