Well I did it 2 days post on...

Recommended Posts

Hello All

53 year old man 6' weighed 262 before sleeve procedure.

It has been approximately 48 hours since the surgery. I feel achy, tired, and have a terrible headache. I'm drinking Clear Liquids +recommend the Protein Drink. I'm walking but very fatigued.

Is this normal?

I'm a bit nervous

Steve

Yes very normal! I am only 6 days post op but my headache was awful and causing me to dry heave for 2 days straight. As everyone told me you just went through a major surgery. I went off my pain meds and stuck with tylenol and my headache went away.

For me, the second day was the worst. I had terrible nausea and a horrible headache. Apparently, the headache was from the pain mess. Once I stopped those my headache subsided. I'm 4 days out and still very achey everywhere and tired, but no nausea and no headache. I'll take that over the other anytime. Feel better soon.

How much liquids are you getting in? I was barley getting in 32 ounces (Im on clear liquids until Monday) but today I have been able to get in a lot more, to the point i was worried I was going to stretch my sleeve. My surgery was the 27th.

I'm trying with the Water, but geeze it's not easy. I've only had about 30oz not counting the Protein Shake I sipped on all day. I used to drink water like crazy before but this sip sip sip crap sucks. If I do more than a sip I get gas bubbles and uncomfortable.

Thats why I am concerned tonight. I was the exact same way until tonight then I ended up having my first bm in over a week and drank a Water with lemon more quickly than I should have. It was so good and the first time I wasn't so gassy and uncomfortable... Does anyone know if water can shrink the sleeve? I drank about 16 oz in an hour and half.

Tiredness for me at three weeks out comes primarily after my 2 mile walks. I too had a terrible time consuming Water after surgery but ne day in week two suddenly water consumption was much easier. The swelling in the stomach must have gone down significantly in week two. I still have to rely on Miralax once a week however to have some bowel regularity. Your symptoms will diminish greatly with time. Walking every day seemed to be the most important thing to me besides getting in 4 oz of Protein three times a day as well as working on increasing my water consumption. Best wishes to you for a smooth recovery!

I was able to easily drink water like that after about the 4th day, a bottle in an hour to hour and a half. The stomach swelling is going down. I can still easily drink my liquids in about an hour per bottle or glass... however, I can barely eat 2 - 2.5 oz of food now that I am on solids, so it certainly seems that the liquids do indeed just empty from the stomach pretty fast.

I think as the swelling goes down the water drinking gets easier. It's been easier for me these past couple of days. I don't think you should worry that the water will stretch things. That being said, go slow.

I'm 6 days post op and from day 2 I have been averaging a minimum of 70 Oz a day i can drink pretty normal, obviously no gulping though. I will drink an 8 ounce Soup broth in 15-20 minutes and I'm fine, just about start to feel full but not really. I'm wondering if this is a bad thing because when my husband had the sleeve done last year he struggled to drink 8 Oz in an hour a week post op

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
