I'm on day 4 of my opti fast pre-surgery diet and an having a hard time getting 2 of these shakes down everyday. They are so sweet they make me nauseous. I have tried watering them down and flavouring them but still does't help. It takes me about 3 hours to get one down. any advice?

I had the same problem with the pre op diet. After talking with my surgeons office they told me to drink a very good chicken broth in between the shakes which would be a relief from all the sweet. Canned broth would not cut it so they suggested two options.

1) I could make a homemade stock by simmering a chicken, carrots, onion, garlic, salt and pepper until the chicken fell off the bone. Then strain that stock and drink that in between the shakes

Or

2) purchase mrs. Grass chicken noodle Soup in a box. The one with the golden egg. Make a batch of that and strain out the noodles. Drink that broth.

Because I was 4 days into my liquid diet and was trying to avoid being around good I went with option 2. I swear it was the best thing I had ever tasted. It was hit, rich , salty and a complete opposite to those shakes.

It made dealing with the shakes much easier and saved me through the pre op diet and also worked great for my post surgery liquid week.

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
