Water and food in the same time ? harmful or harmless?

Recommended Posts

The whole drinking thing has been hard for me

I used to consume about half my Water during meals!

And, I also used to only drinks a few times a day, but when i did, I gulped about 3 glasses of water, so it's been really hard to do small sips constantly.

I am newly banded and just figuring this stuff out also. I never eat and drink at the same time. I think it is okay to drink more than an ounce every 15 min. 4 weeks post op. I am two weeks post op and sip slowly through out the day with no problems. If you are still concerned, it never hurts to call the doc! Good Luck

I was told 'no liquids for 30 minutes before and 60 minutes after meals'. Limiting before is so that you won't feel too full and then not get a proper meal in that will keep you full. After the meal, as mentioned earlier, is to keep the food in your pouch longer. Presurgery I always drank tons during my meals so I was a bit worried, but I've managed to stick to the rule pretty well. I find that if I've kept up with my Fluid intake throughout the day then I'm well hydrated and not too thirsty. At first it was hard getting into the routine but now I don't have to think about it too much. Like Mischevious1 said, if I'm eating something that makes me thirsty I will have a small sip to rinse my mouth. Once, I did drink too much with a meal and it was very uncomfortable. It does seem to be different for everyone so do what works for you. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
