WHAT FOODS GETS STUCK or give you problems?

Recommended Posts

Lets see my list looks like most of yours--

I don't eat bread--

pizza or

scrambled eggs either--

They will come right back up--

Some times Pasta is okay other times it's not-- same with rice--

Steak gives extreme trouble--

I can eat some chicken breast- but like you all --too dry not good.

guess we are all really different. I can eat some bread, it's very selective , whole wheat lite rolls are ok but not ww lite bread , but oatmeal lite prep. farm is ok, but not arnolds ;) just got to try if you really want it and you are brave enough (or compulsively crazy like me, lol) one bite usually tells me but I'm stubborn and a slow learner so I usually have to try it a couple more times just to be sure . pizza, 1 sm thin crust plain pc. went down well, haven't tried any other, the scrambled eggs were fine and the steak was ok, but chicken can give me trouble sometimes. my worst experience was just one bite of swordfish! tuna can be trouble even mixed well, moist and chewed well. Haven't tried pasta! but you know I will! rice ok so far.:nervous

Laura, never had to have anything removed, that doesn't sound like a good time to me:eek: lol.

I have to chew, chew, chew or I throw up. I sometimes throw up even if I chew. But I have the most trouble with stuff like apple skin, Tomato skin, peach skin, and meats without something to grease the skids. I usually cut meats in Chiclet sized pieces (thanks TOM) and chew them over 30 times. I eat a lot of pork chops because the go down pretty well if I cut them really small. I can eat potatoes very well and soft vegetables, but fresh vegetables are out except tomatoes without skins. I have eaten about 2 salads since being banded and they went down, but I had to chew so much that I think I lost any nutrition in the chewing. Slime is a major problem. I think it actually stops up the hole to the stomach. I find that chocolate kisses help things go down, and sometimes I just wait around and it finally goes down. I eat bacon and scrambled eggs every day for lunch at about 2-3 p.m. Before that I can't eat, so I drink Unjury every morning. I have noticed that if I'm upset about something, stuff won't go down. My air conditioner stopped up and Water ran all over the carpet in the hall and Mother's room the other day, and I couldn't eat anything. Since I had that fixed, I can eat. Weird, isn't it?

is it only me or does "the foods that get stuck" changes literally sometimes day to day......or even hour to hour!

I don't have a list of foods that ALWAYS get stuck....except maybe calamari! And yes that was incredibly stupid of me to even try!!!!!!

Steak steak and steak, porkchop and bread early in the mornings and if I ever try to sneak in a little sip with my meal I will be stuck.

Dear beach girl,

please tell me what your fills are like with Dr.Curry.Have you gone to him exclusively or others? Do you feel he gave you good restriction,on your first fill?others?and does he do under fluoroscopy?

thanks!

I have 8.25 cc in a 10 cc band. After this last UNfill (Couldnt even keep down liquids) These are the foods that get stuck ALWAYS, no matter how small a bite or how well I chew:

Pinto Beans

bread

Tortillas

Sopapillas

donuts

cake

muffins

brownies

grapes

hot dogs

scrambled eggs

French fries

Orange juice

Hamburgers from any fast food place

As you can see, most are foods on my list we aren't suppose to be eating anyway, so I guess I'm better off, huh!

Goodness these stories make me worried for the time when I have a bigger restriction than what I have right now. I only have had one fill so far and thus far, I can tolerate everything and nothing gets stuck or gives me a problem. It all goes down really easily.

Only thing I sometimes have an issue with are potatoes. They dont get stuck, but they do tend to sometimes cause me some nausea so most of the time, I avoid them and only will eat them in teeny tiny amounts from time to time.

I am positively horrified at the thought of getting a piece of meat stuck like some of the stories I read here and elsewhere. Yipe that must be a horrible and scary position to be in.

I am also worried about what it will be like taking my pills down the road when I am more restricted. I am breaking them in half and taking one at time now because of that fear.

I have issues with most solids in the morning, so unless I have a lot of time to take miniscule teeny tiny nibbles and chew the heck out of each nibble, I just go with a shake, cottage cheese, or greek yogurt.

Otherwise, I have very few problems with most foods I eat for lunch or snack. I can usually eat bread and nuts without an issue. Cornbread is worse than other breads for some reason. Occasionally edamame or chickpeas will give me a little trouble.

dinner is my rough spot. I think even though it's been almost 6 months, I'm still learning the CHEW lesson, especially in the evening when I'm hungry and tired.

chicken is my nemesis. But, we're on a very tight budget, so unless I want to go vegetarian, it's what I've got for dinner Protein at least 4-5 nights each week. Other meats (when I have them) are occasionally troublesome, but not nearly as bad as poultry. Hopefully someday I'll get the hang of it and not get stuck almost every time. :(

I noticed several people mentioned scrambled eggs, I don't have a fill yet but thought eggs should be pretty easy. What is it about them that seems to get stuck? Are they actually more dry then one would expect? Just curious

Raw hard veggies like carrots "hurt" going down, I don't have any problems with them if they are cut up really small (like in a salad) or if they are cooked. My worst stuck & vomit episode was with 2 bites of pancakes - so they are off my list. Last night we ate at Pei Weis - couldn't handle the Teryiaki chicken, rice & veggies - weird because when I make something similiar at home I can tolerate it just fine.

Pita bread and Mozzarella Sticks.

I love Hummus and they always give me pita bread. Its hell for me. The mozzarella sticks get stuck and I feel like I'm choking no matter how good I chew.

Pancakes and waffles are PURE EVIL.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
