Dizzy and Lightheaded

Recommended Posts

I'm 5 weeks post op. I look at food and can't eat anything. I'm getting about half of my Protein and fluids but feel to full to drink more. Currently my source of protein is liquid premiere protein. I tried an egg today and ate about 1/8 of it. I go back to work tomorrow and don't see how I can do it as weak as I am. I long for the days of spaghetti or pizza. Will that ever happen again?

You will make it through this. If you are having a hard time eating you must get your Protein in. That is what will make the weak feeling go away. Also, because you are dizzy and lightheaded, I suspect that you are not get enough fluids. That can make you literally feel week, nauseous and dizzy. No matter what you need to focus on getting enough fluids in.

If you do that I promise you will start to feel better. It is the hardest thing about this new life. Focus on fluids, Protein and finally Vitamins. The food will come along.

Good luck and if you continue to feel this way you need to call the doctor. You are going to have a tough time making it through work dehydrated.

Right, you need to meet your Protein and Fluid requirements.

For all Protein shakes tasted terrible. I had to find one that I could tolerate. There are a variety of different types on the market today - so experiment.

After surgery, I found that I no longer enjoyed drinking plain Water. I had to flavor it in order to get it down. I used Crystal Light.

Even at 5 weeks your goal is to get as much Protein and Water down as possible. There really isn't a quota until later. The thing that really helps me, and this is from the very beginning, is peppermint tea sweetened with stevia. It tastes good and calms my stomach. I know what you mean about the egg. I have come to realize that my stomach has always been pretty sensitive. I think I used starchy food to calm things down. Now I use the tea. It took me a few months to not have to think so much about what I am doing. It is not easy what we are doing. But I promise it will not always be so hard. Good luck.

Thank you for all your responses. I try to drink as much as possible but decided to tackle soft foods this week and less Protein Drink. Hope I'm successful

I am two weeks post bypass and find that I can keep hydrated with several hundred small sips a day, I like Water but also Crystal Light. I have been able to eat watery refried Beans with some salsa in it. But the real winner is strangely, Cream of Wheat. I make a double batch (2 cups of Water, 1/3 cup COW) and add two scoops of Protein powder in it, and a couple of Splenda packets. I let it cook thoroughly and then cover and sit for ten minutes. It is delicious.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
