Weak from liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

I will have to be on Clear liquids and Protein drinks after my revision for 7-10 days.

Question: don't you feel extraordinarily weak during this time?

I'm on Day 8, 6 more to go. Yes, I feel weak. You're taking in far less calories than normal, and still burning them too. I couldn't attack my yard work with the usual gusto. I refuse to work out in this phase and expend the energy I do have.

Its manageable tough, not impossible.

I've been on the liquid diet for 2 weeks now and I've experienced weakness. My energy is great and I'll get up and do yard work or work around the house and after about an hour or so, I'm exhausted. I think it's normal since we're taking in such fewer calories.

Revision as in re do the RYN; or from sleeve to RNY? I had the re-do of RNY. I did not feel particularly weak. If you take your Water and Protein, you should be fine. The burning fat should provide energy. But, after major surgery, of course you won't feel 100%! Yard work, routine house work after 6 days post op is not reasonable. You need time to heal and acclimate; but if you temper yourself, you shouldn't feel so bad.

realized this was revision to Bypass after I posted : )

I found that as long as I was getting my Proteins and fluids I actually felt good. I think I felt better than I did pre-op when I was eating so many carbs and big portions. I was more tired... the body wants more rest to heal, but I wasn't weak from lack of food.

Lap band to RNY. No hard work for me, I can barely walk without my Rollator.

I had my surgery on April 23rd at 7:30am. Of course my friend came on the 22nd which sucked since you wear a tampon. I was out of surgery around 1pm. I have been in ICU since Thursday afternoon. My doctor said I will be in here until Monday, Tuesday the latest. Monday, he is going to do the stomach test to see if everything is working properly. I won't have anything to drink or eat until Monday.

Prepost weight 274

14 days of liquid diet, cheated twice

Day of surgery 258.4

I am not sure how much I weigh now and my body is swollen from the gas that they fill your tummy before surgery and the fluids that are going into me 24/7.

I was on a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery and 2 weeks post-op. I had my surgery on 14 April. I had a little less energy during the pre-op diet than normal, but was able to work and do all my normal activities. Post-op has been quite a bit different. The 1st week after surgery, I was really tired. This is a pretty significant surgery though, so it your body has to recover. I was released from the hospital on 16 April, and by 19 April I was on the treadmill. There are days it's tough to find it in you to jump on there, but I haven't missed a day. I'm up to an hour a day, and the exercise is making all the difference in the world. I returned to work yesterday, so I was pretty worn out when I got home. Resting for an hour, then jumped on the treadmill for an hour. Talked to my Doc about the energy levels on Monday at my 1st follow-up. He said it's quite normal to not have much energy and is to be expected. He said it varies from person to person, but can be from a month to 3 or 4 months until you get back to your normal energy level. From there, it so go up as you lose weight.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
