Finally got to eat....

Recommended Posts

I got advanced to soft foods finally. I had a scrambled egg and two tbsp if refried Beans. It was the greatest thing ever.

Today I had yogurt and it didn't seem to like me :-/. I'm thinking the next few months is going to be a whole lot of trial and error.

Guess I'll start getting ready to open up Chef Blashlee's Test Kitchen!

Hey @@blashlee! Congrats on making it to soft foods! It sounds like you're doing really well. Please feel free to share any great recipes you concoct in your test kitchen!

I'm closing in on the 2-week liquid diet (starting a week from tomorrow) and I've come up with some awesome Protein shakes. I just don't yet know how I'm going to stick with only liquids and Protein Shakes for that long. I'm scared!

@@laurenjane If at all possible, remove food from your house LOL. I dunno if you live alone or not, but that was the easiest way for me to get through it. I gave all my perishable food to my mom and put everything else away in the freezer and the canned stuff in the high shelf cabinet.

Also, stay really busy. At times where you would normally be eating, go run an errand or go for a walk. The first few days are going to suck. Your energy will crash and you might be mildly cranky, but just keep thinking about why you're doing it.

Also, if you have been buying Protein in variety, stop. Your taste buds are going to change after surgery. About 3 or 4 of the flavors I was loving pre-op i absolutely cannot STAND post op.

sugar free Jello and popsicles are your very best friends. Stock up! Enjoy your last week of food (not too much) and feel free to contact me if you have other questions or if you just wanna bitch it out LOL. It is difficult but once you get used to it, it really isn't too terrible and it goes by fairly quickly.

I went to the store and bought somethings to eat: egg beaters, cream Soup, cottage cheese and turkey slices. I know everything needs to be blended and purreed, but I'm scared to get off of liquified yogurt. Congrats on trying soft foods.

Thanks. So far I've had yogurt, scrambled egg, refried Beans, and string cheese. Everything has gone down well. Yogurt seems to be a "slider" food tho, so i won't be relying on it much for my meals and my doctor doesn't condone Snacks. It's s great Protein source but it didn't fill me up at all.

@blaslee what type of liquid supplements did you buy for the prepping diet??

I was drinking Premier Protein mostly. I also had Proteins from Cellucor (Red Velvet was my favorite, I haven't tried it post op) and also Syntrax Fuzzy Navel (haven't been able to tolerate it post op). I drank a lot of Iced Passion Tea from Starbucks and crystal light strawberry lemonade.

I'm at the puree stage to, I got some pre-made frozen meals which are designed for older people who can't swallow well, and just eat the meat bit and if I still want more then the carrots or peas but avoid the carb.

So far I've tried tuna and low fat mayo which seems to go down fine, and tried some cottage cheese tonight which was fine but think I ate a bit too much as definitely feel funny now….

I don't think my doctor has a "puréed" stage now that I look at my paperwork. This week I was given a small list to eat from which included yogurt, eggs, cottage cheese, lentil and split pea Soup. Next week I have a list that includes deli meats and cheeses, canned chicken and tuna, soft fish, well cooked beans/lentils/legumes, soft tofu, egg salad, and feta and ricotta cheeses, which I will eat for two weeks and as long as those foods go down well I move onto more stuff like ground meats and soft cooked veggies and non-fibrous/stringy fruits.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
