I start the pre op diet tomorrow. I am really scared. I was not apprehensive at all when I got the band. Why is this so scary? Anyone else having surgery soon?

I'm scheduled 4 days after you. I have a ton of mixed feelings and all the "what if's" have surfaced.

The one thing that occupies my thoughts the most is: I can't seem to grasp or imagine how "feeling full or satiety" really feels like or even knowing when to stop eating with the sleeve. With the band I knew the exact volume and when to stop else............. This will be a whole new learning curve for us.

The scarey part of sleeve surgery is the potential leaks, that we didn't have to deal with lapband surgery. I think that is what dominates my fears. Good luck to you and a prayer out your way. jake

I know what you mean NoMo. I can't imagine what that would feel like either. I worry about leaks too. My doc said that would most likely happen while I am still in the hospital. Hopefully that won't be the case.

Well I relate with your feelings I was never so scared with the band, I think the fact of knowing 80% of my stomach is going to be cut off scares me!!! With the band all kind of stats in place !

Yes, that and it the fact that it can't be undone. Also, the band was done outpatient, the sleeve requires hospital stay.

Hi New. I was the same way. I was terrified of the sleeve surgery. I had myself convinced I was going to die on the table. My surgery was 3/18/2015 and here I am talking to you. It went well. I feel great. I'm already off my diabetic and BP meds and both have been normal. I am adjusting to my new stomach and learning to eat more slowly and mindfully. I hope all goes well for you. I came really close to backing out and I'm very glad I didn't now. Peace, John

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
