1 week post op and having a hard time getting anything down

Recommended Posts

:help:Hi. I had my band installed on june 4 the and have been super careful with my diet (liquids liquids liquids) but this morning I tried to take a small capsule and ended up trowing it up and have not been able to get much of anything down since then. I didn't get violently ill this morning, just "PB'd" the capsule and some slime so I don't think I "pulled" anything. I have had tremendoud pain even drinking Water. I managed about a half cup of chick broth, but it took me 2 hours. I feel okay now, but know I need more liquid to avoid dehydration. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.:help:

Stay on liquids! Don't try to take any more meds if you don't have to. If you are still having problems tomorrow, I would call the doctor. Good Luck and let us know how you are doing tomorrow.

I had the exact same problem. You are probably just a little swollen. I was told to either empty the capsule or take it with very warm liquid (it dissolves quicker). Check with your pharmacist to see if you can empty the capsule. Just go really easy today, stick with warm liquids. If it doesn't get better call doctor in the am.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
