Okie needs a buddy

Recommended Posts

I found out last week my surgery was approved after 5 months of nutitional counseling and psych visit. I go for my upper GI this week and then to the surgeon on April 13 to schedule surgery. I have told a few of the girls I work with that I am planning on doing this. A couple of them had daughters that have been banded. My husband is kind of supportive. He says whatever I want to do but Im not planning on telling my parents they wouldn't understand why I can't just buckle down and loss weight. As we all know we have tried multiple times. So I would love to have someone that has struggled with obesity for years to help me as I start this journey.. I have read multiple books about the surgery and recovery but it is so much better to have someone who has been thru it. I am 55 years old and have struggled with obesity since I had my son when I was 24. Never overweight before that. and neither is my family. So I have felt like the odd one out for years. I am an RN and I work full time. I am married and have one grown son who is 30 and is going to be married in June.So if anyone would like to help me walk thru this journey I would much appreciate it. Oh by the way I would like to loss 100 pounds.

Rn4val, I'm not on here all the time, but you can certainly message me.

The band is a tool and I'm still working towards my goal after 4 1/2 years, but I wouldn't have gotten as far as I have, w/o the band. You can do it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
