Total time from first inquiry to surgery date - 3 months possible?

Recommended Posts

I would like to be able to schedule my surgery during my kids' summer vacation, preferably the week they are all away at summer camp. I am covered by United Healthcare Choice Plus and my policy does not require a pre-authorization diet or waiting period. I have my first consultation with my assigned nurse on 4/17 and should be having my psychological evaluation soon. Given all of that, does a surgery date mid-July sound possible?

I had my consult on Jan 29th, scheduled for surgery April 15th. It took 2 weeks for me to get approved after my psych eval, egd and nutrition class. I have BCBS though. It all went pretty fast, but the approval is what killed me. I wanted surgery mid March.

Interesting - my surgeon's office doesn't schedule the EGD until after the insurance approval comes through. I have BCBS also (federal) and it requires 3 months supervised dieting and the psych eval before submitting. I started in Jan and hoped to be in by early June; now it's looking more like July.

I had my group seminar on January 21st and I'm scheduled for April 22nd Surgery. Definitely doable! You just need to stay on top of your appointments. Be aware that the NUT may require two visits 30 days apart. That's the one thing I wasn't aware of and yet I made that my last appointment. I could have been done 2 weeks earlier.

I started Feb 13th and have surgery April 22nd. It all depends on insurance and getting any other appts done as soon as possible. I had to stay on top of things pretty closely to make sure I got things done quickly. I took all the first available appt times. :) And I made lots of phone calls lol. My doctor's office said 2 months is the shortest time frame they have ever worked with. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
