Crawfish - Friend or foe?

Recommended Posts

Good evening. I am a newbie. I was sleeved on 03/31/2015. One of my favorite foods is boiled crawfish. I know I can't have any real food yet. I'm still on Clear liquids. So far so good. Today my husband and I got out of the house and sat by the river for a bit to enjoy the fresh air. I could smell so many different places boiling crawfish. I have not been hungry since the surgery but the smell of crawfish got in my head.

When I move through the stages, will crawfish be ok? Will it hurt me? Has anyone out there had crawfish after surgery and if so, how long after and did it hurt? I am hoping that in a month or 2 I can have a few crawfish again. I appreciate any advice. Thank you!

I was sleeved on 3-18 and am in the mushy food stage. A few days ago i tried shrimp and found that it was very dense and painful. I know that's not crawfish but i would wait until you are allowed a full diet. For me that is week 8.

I am on week 8 and yes you can have boil crawfish, but everyone's tolerance of spice is different. I haven't had any issues, but of course you won't be able to eat several pounds like before surgery. I can eat about 6 crawfish and I'm done.

I say Friend! I eat crawfish and all other seafood with no problems. While in the puréed stage take it very slow and be careful of food that is too dry. (Some fish bothered me at first but only because it was dry.)

Some have different interpretations of what puréed means but my Nutritionist was ok with eating chicken/fish as long as it was moist and chewed to baby food consistency before swallowing.

Thank you everyone! I'm good with waiting until the appropriate time to have crawfish I'm just glad they are not off the table forever! @@divine42514 I can't imagine 6 crawfish filling me up. But I am excited for that too!

At this point...why not try make a broth by cooking crawfish and veggies or whatever you like. Let your husband eat the crawfish, but you can have the broth.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
