How much did you lose at first?

Recommended Posts

I am getting ready to start my pre-op diet soon. Anyone that would like to share- how much did you lose at first with the pre-op post op diet? Did you lose a lot being on liquids all that time? Just would like to know what to expect. Thanks!

I was on the pre-op for 2 weeks and lost 12 lbs but it was not an all liquid diet. I had my surgery on April 19th and I've lost a total of 42 lbs so far. I didn't lose all of the weight from changing my diet only, I also exercised for at least 30 mins/day.

My pre-op diet was low carb/high Protein. I lost 17lbs. I was banded on May 31st, and I have lost 15lbs since then. So, I'm down 32 lbs in 3 1/2 weeks. But now I am on soft foods, so that weight loss is going to start slowing down. I'm also walking every day.

I was on a liquid diet and one yogurt a day. three carnation instant Breakfast and one yogurt of your choice. I lost 18 pounds doing that. I did not cheat at all. Not that I didn't want to, the tempation was there but I didn't give in. The surgical coordinator told me that most women do not lost that much but I wanted a good start.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
