Omg I can eat food and it scare me to death

Recommended Posts

I am just a year out from my bypass and I can eat whatever I want just in smaller position and this scares me so much. I been counting calories and even tho I can't each as much I still can eat a ton of calories. I have been at a plateau for about three months now. I need some help on how to get back on track.

Speak to your doctor's office and ask how many calories, how many grams of Protein, etc you should be eating at this stage. Log everything you put in your mouth in some program like My Fitness Pal, Fat Secret, Sparkpeople, etc. (there are tons of choices both for computer and phone/tablet apps).

go back to the very basics of enough Water, Protein first and then small amounts of vegetables - I would recommend choosing low carb ones, skip things like potatoes, corn and peas, which are starchy. Just google "low carb vegetables" and you'll probably get a lot of hits, or check the Atkins site if you need something more structured for awhile.

while ultimately it's best to choose unprocessed foods as much as possible, if you still have a sweet tooth after surgery, you may want to have a few small things like artificially sweetened Protein Bars to have on hand in case the sweets gremlin strikes you. Just try to find the ones with the lowest carb numbers.

Good luck getting back on track!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
