Almost 2 weeks post op and I don't want to eat anything

Recommended Posts

I am nearing 2 weeks since I got my sleeve. I was on a two week Liquid Protein diet prior to surgery. I was so happy after my surgery I figured I would be able to eat food again. Well I can eat food but I feel sick every time I eat something. It is a turn off and I have found myself just not eating. Does everyone have this issue. When does it get easier to eat? Monday I start more solid food and I can't even imagine what that will be like if I can hardly stand soft foods.

Thats how I felt this week. I am getting past that now though. i think it was more about the fact that i couldnt just eat what i wanted so i think I was rebelling against food. i was so hungry but then when i ate i was just over it, if that makes any sense

Sick how? Nauseous? Tummy upset? It is normal but if it's nausea or acid, you can get meds for it.

For the first 6-8 weeks, your stomach is still swollen from surgery. I know that food was not high on my list for the first couple months. I just ate very small portions - like 1-1.5 ozs max until I was feeling better. Remember, the most important thing during those first few weeks is staying hydrated. Drink Water (or herbal tea like I did). I ended up back in the hospital at week 3 for I.V's and potassium since I ended up getting dehydrated. From that point forward, my doctor told me to eat when I was hungry and not eat if I didn't feel it would stay down. As long as I focused on Water, broths, sugar-free juices and very thin Protein drinks I was fine. I made it through and I'm now 4.5 months post op and doing extremely well according to my surgeon last week. It will get better. Just be patient with yourself and your new, smaller stomach.

Just the queasy feeling and fullness from one or two small bites. I when been militant on my drinking to be sure I stay hydrated it's tough for me because I would gulp down Water by the bottle before. I am so anxiously awaiting a time when I can look at food and not be scared of wether or not I will be feeling sick from eating it. I think eating the same things over and over the first two weeks might be mental problem for me as well.

I'm 5 months post-op and still have days I don't want to eat so I'm a Protein Shake and Quest bar girl to the max. The two things I never have an issue with.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
