I am currently still in the process of getting everything squared away for my surgery. I was taking Nature's Bounty hair, skin and nails Vitamins with 5000mcg of Biotin before I decided to have surgery. Can someone tell me what dose of biotin they are currently taking?

I started taking 2500 mcg daily about 3 months prior to surgery, so for about 8 months total. I also have a dose of Biotin in the Multivitamin I take. Originally, I used to be on the "more is better" bandwagon & took huge doses of anything I could get my hands on, since the idea of losing hair was my worst nightmare. However, GB limits the amount of anything we can process from what we eat, so I don't know that it really makes a difference- kind of like protein- from what I understand, if you try to eat/drink more than 30 or so grams of Protein in a sitting, it just passes on through, since your body can't process that much at a time. Best of luck to you! :)

Did you end up losing any hair?

I am taking 10,000 units and have lost a lot of hair. It has just finally stopped. I had been taking Biotin for over a year. I don't think it really helps to prevent Hair loss. I have just researched collagen and have ordered a powdered form that you add to water(easy to consume). It does sound like it should help based on what collegen does for the body.

I have been taking 5000 units per day since surgery. Lost quite a bit of hair between months 5-8. I've noticed in the last 1-2 weeks it seems to have dramatically slowed down. Happy dance! Not sure if the Biotin helped with preventing the inevitable loss, but my (remaining) hair looks shiny/healthy!

@Threetimesacharm. The Biotin never worked for me either. I also started taking a powdered form of marine collagen. It helped a lot with the shedding. A few months after I started taking the collagen I began to add a daily cup of bamboo tea which is high in silica. Silica is supposed to be great for skin, hair, and nails. The bamboo tea has helped with the dryness, brittleness and breakage of my hair. It is so much softer and heather looking. I still haven't experienced the re growth other people have had, but as long as what I got feels healthy and the shedding is at bay I guess that's enough.

Hope the collagen helps you!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
