So glad to see this post. I'm just starting soft foods today but so far everything has been staying down super well. Knock on wood that continues, believe me I'm not complaining, but it was worrying me a bit. Not so much after reading the responses.

I have a feeling this may be my experience. Although I am very early into the recovery process (I will have had my surgery 3 weeks ago this Monday), I have feelings of hunger. Someone suggested it may be because I am not hydrated, and I could not dispute that because I have always had issues staying hydrated. However, this is one of my concerns. I changed much of my diet prior to this surgery when I had my band placed in 2012, and due to my diabetes, and it is because of my diabetes my doc and I decided to move forward to the conversion surgery. *sigh*...time will tell. I definitely don't want issues (I had dumping with one of my Protein shakes and it was not fun.

I am one year post op and I can tolerate most everything however I can eat all of the bad stuff that has all the bad calories in it. It is very tuff to stick to the plan when you can eat fast food and really pretty much anything you want. I have been at a stand still in weight loss since January and this scares me to death. I don't want to stretch my pouch out but I really am struggling with everything. What are some things you all do to keep the cravings down. and what do you do when you have them. I didn't get fat by having self control and now I still don't have any. Any help would be great.

I wish I hadn't read this. I'm planning GBS too, for many of the same reasons. But I think that I would be too scared to even TRY something that could make me sick....

I also can eat pretty much anything I want. I have to consciously remind to ask myself, "are you full?" It's something you have to pay close attention to. You have the full feeling, you're just not tuning into it :)

I guess I don't understand. I can eat anything I want, but I can't eat much of it and sometimes, very little as in three bites. It doesn't seem like a 2 pound a week loss comes from eating in excess?

I have the same concerns regarding portions and calories. I imagine I could tolerate anything, but I have not tried. Any new food that I have been allowed to introduce by my drs. guidelines I have tolerated just fine. I am suspicious that I could eat anything I want. However, so far (thanks be to Jesus!), I have had the willpower to not test it.

I am eating anywhere from 800-1000 calories a day; but like @@esskay77 , I am not concentrating on calories - I am concentrating on Protein. I even brought it up at support group meeting a couple weeks ago and was told to stay focused on the protein not calories. I will be 8 weeks out this Friday, so we must have had our surgeries around the same time.

If you would like, we could "friend" each other on MyFitnessPal and you can see my food journal. I have found that it is a good way to kind of benchmark with others and get fresh ideas for Snacks and meals. I have input several of my recipes for my Breakfast quiche muffins, meatloaf in muffin tin, chocolate PB protein balls, etc. and so I know the nutritional value per serving which makes it easy to track. I love it. My username is rragon.

Good luck!

Hi Rebecca Ragon I would like to be friends in my pal to see your receipe and help each other out in that area my username is Karenpizano2007@yahoo.com

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
