Will tobacco effect my chances for WLS

Recommended Posts

When I went to my orientation all doctors and presnters were adimant that smoking was not allowed and that they do give blood tests.

I used to smoke a lot when I was in high school and all throughout college. When I started dating my fiance (three years ago) I've been able to manage my smoking from little to none. However, when stress got the best of me I had one or two cigarrettes and then threw away the pack some time after (They'd get stale so that'll give somewhat of an idea on how often I smoked). The last time I actaully smoked was a few months back.

Do you think this'll effect my chances?

Plus, they do say that second hand does come up on the blood tests and I do have family members that do smoke.

I had a blood test a few weeks after taking a few drags off of my husband's e-cig, and my test results were totally clean. If you quit a few months back, you should be fine. If the secondhand smoke is enough to affect the levels in your blood, it will still be very low.

Best of luck to you!

You should be ok...I'm not a "smoker" (none of us are - right?? Lol )...anyway...I was smoking a few a day upto two weeks prior to surgery.

I did have a blood test and my doctor kept asking me of I smoked and when I quit...I kept lying, but I think he knew. They did my surgery anyway but I think he was a little upset. Plus I had my surgery I'm Mexico so perhaps they weren't as strict.

If you quit months ago you should be ok...just don't take the chance...you never know what could happen...not worth having your surgery cancelled of postponed.

:-)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
