Failed Stress Test, Heart Cath Scheduled

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I'm new to this board and haven't posted before, but I got some discouraging news yesterday and need some insight. I'm in the process of completing pre-op requirements and testing, so I went to see the cardiologist yesterday for the results of my stress test (required by surgeon for cardiac clearance for surgery) and found out that they don't like the look of my heart under stress. So now everything is on hold pending a heart catheterization (sp?) and possible need for a stent. I haven't had any outward symptoms of a blockage or heart problems. I totally expected this to be a breeze!

Has anyone gone through this and had to have a stent before wls? If you have, how long did it delay your surgery?

I'm really in a funk because this was the very last thing I had to get done before scheduling my surgery. Everything else, including insurance approval has been done. :(

@@recordsmom, I am so sorry to hear you have a delay in your surgery. It is good news that they found this issue now though. I hope all goes well with your cath and things get back on track for you.

Once you get through this and then have your WLS, your diet will change and hopefully keep you from having further heart issues.

I will say a prayer that everything goes well and you get to move on with your surgery. Keep us posted!

Thank you! I appreciate any prayers anyone wants to say on my behalf! :) I am thankful that any potential problem will hopefully be caught now and not cause a bigger problem later. *Sigh* I will be patient.

They didn't comment on my EKG, so I don't think they saw anything unusual on that.

I am so glad to see someone else had to have this done! Ok, that sounded wrong..

I also had an abnormal stress test. I guess it's not uncommon for younger women to have a weird rhythm under stress...my cardiologist said it's something to do with estrogen. However, I'm menopausal, so he was concerned. Long story short, I went through the cardiac catheterization, which was not painful, but really stressful to me, because I was so afraid that I had an actual heart problem, and that I wouldn't be able to get the surgery I waited so long and patiently for.

Well, it came back absolutely normal. I was a go for surgery. It panicked me for nothing. So, let's hope it's the same for you!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
