I am pretty new to all this. I have been doing a lot of research that past few weeks and have a consult with a surgeon next week. (Dr Pham, if anyone is from Buffalo and has had him please PM me!). Anyway I had to find a new PCP because mine is now practicing about an hour away. I was worried on what she would say about wanting the surgery and if she would go along with it. I was worried she would want me to try other things under her care first and delay the process. The appointement ended up going great. She at first was a little concerned that I wanted to have surgery when I have no health issues besides joint pain from being overweight. After I told her about all my attempts and the fact that my mothers side of the family has heart and diabetes issues she said she would support this! She told me she would do whatever they needed her to do and after I see the surgeon to let her know. I am relieved that she is in my corner and I believe I made the right choice in a new primary doctor!

Awesome! It's great to have as much support as possible.

That's great. I too have a very supportive PCP. I like knowing I've got someone in my corner looking out for my entire well being.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
