Preop diet .... Please help

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

My first post here. Looks like I may have found a home. I just finished day 3 pre-op and feeling pretty good. I am using Bariatric Advantage Protein powder for my shakes, sf Jello, crystal light to flavor my Water, and chicken and beef broth. Today, I got tired of my chocolate shake mix,so I added a bit of sf raspberry Jello powder to the powder in the blender and it was much easier to get down. I am supposed to have 3 shakes per day, but it has been tough to get three in. I'll keep trying,

Hi, how many days do you have to do the liquid diet?

Good luck!

Hi @sbmflorida it depends on your program and what the surgeon recommends. Personally my program orders a 3 week pre op liquid diet but two weeks seems to be common. The constraints of these diets also differ between programs.

I found the longest part of this process waiting for my date lol

You're getting close!

Sounds like everyone is making it through. I'm on my 8th day of liquid diet. My doc requires two week on his prescribed Protein Drinks so 800 calories a day and 110 grams Protein. I'm allowed sugar free Jello and bouillon. And of course at least 64 oz Water. I'm feeling good. Last week was a little rough but I made it. Just keeping my eye on the prize. I go for surgery 3/23. Good luck everyone- WE CAN DO THIS!!

Today is my second day of liquid pre-op diet. I can have 4 sugar free carnation instant Breakfast, 2cups if SF Jello or 2 Sf Popsicles and Water. I too am weak and tearful today. Any suggestions from those who have gone before us would be greatly appreciated!!!

Sam58- It DOES get better. Drink lots of Water. It helps with the hunger. I am allowed to drink decaffeinated hot tea and that really helps too. You can do it!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
