Long Time No Post

Wow. It has been 11 months since my surgery. I can't even wrap my head around all that has happened. My starting weight was 285 and I now weight 195. My weight loss went super fast at first then it seemed like somewhere in September it just said eh I'm done. Which is hard. Harder than I thought it would be. My parents payed for the whole surgery out of pocket and when they ask if I have lost anymore weight I feel like sh*t. I am also at the time where exercise is important to keeping up your weight loss and I can't exercise. Before surgery i had major back pain so the doctors told me i had to lose weight. I lost most of the weight but the pain got worse. So they finally x-rayed and saw i have juvenile degenerative disc disorder. I also had fractures up and down my spine. I have also just been generally unwell. I can't work, I can't go to college. I can't exercise. I am just stuck. its also hard not to turn to my old habits because i was an emotional eater and if i hadn't had the surgery i probably would eat everything insight. So I'm still very grateful to have had the surgery and I'm sure my back would be a million times worse… but its still hard. Sorry for my boring update but hopefully my next one will be a little more exciting. :)

There's no physical activity you can do at all? That definitely poses a challenge. How are yo doing on your food intake? Getting Protein first and eating healthy for the most part or do you occasionally cave in to the emotional eating you mentioned?

I've seen people still lose weight with little or no exercise, especially someone as young as you are. How about just walking? If the weather is crappy, take a walk around the mall. Point is, meet in the middle. Get back to your basics. Protein first, no simple carbs, or sugar. Drink lots of Water and try to do a little walking, and I think your weight loss should start up again. Good luck!

can't exercise

WARNING WARNING WARNING

i am experiencing diarrhea of the mouth :o

long post (even for me LOL)

@@SydneySweetHeart

welcome back to the boards

i've missed you -_-

i am here a lot

whether you guys like it or not

i come here often because it reminds me of my "roots"

and tells me where i never want to go again

you lost 90 lbs post op!!!!!

thats great!!!!

the first few months PO you can/might lose weight quicker

the weight loss "might" slow down a bit afterwards

some stalls last 5 days, 5 weeks - or for 5 months+

you will break through the stall in timet

it could happen today, tomorrow, next day or...........

but it WILL happen

"God Grant Me Patience, Just Hurry Up About It!! ;) "

physical problems presently preventing you from going to the gym

sorry about your back/spine/degenerate disc

can you go swimming at the Y??

don't think membership would cost too much??

there are DVD "chair" exercises

they are initially made for older people (seniors)

people might have problems standing and other things

tapes work just as well for younguns'!

tapes are good (i used for awhile prior to weight loss  )

embarrassed about using a tape for seniors ???

get over it!

i promise i won't tell anyone ;)

exercising is definitely recommended

good for you mentally and physically

many, many people love exercising et al

it is wonderful

that being said.......

many people don't exercise, and they still are successful

confession is good for the sole

i never got big time into exercising

i turned out okl ;)

in other words you can still lose weight without exercise

if i promoted not exercising

i would surely be tarred and feathered!! LOL

parents paid for surgery

they love you and wanted to help

wonderful gift

but that doesn't mean your parents "own" and can/should watch you like a hawk

that must be a lot of pressure on you

if your parents don't know your physical issues

tell them!!!

they need to understand you are following what you are supposed to do

as long as you are doing your best - that is all that can be expected of you

i'm "sure" you are continuing to eat, drink, follow allll the rules, righttttt? ;)

drinking at least 64 oz of Water a day

stop drinking 30 minutes or so before you eat

never drink while you are eating

don't eat for 45-60 minutes after you eat

chew thoroughly, slowly

protein first

measuring your foods etc

keep track of everything you eat

you "probably" knew all this

thought i''d remind you if you "might" have needed a kick in the butttt ;)

do you have a NUT you can talk to??

could you pay someone for a couple of times for good information/help for you

look into support groups

you can be 1 on 1 with others talking about problems/getting answers to questions

general discussion about surgery you had

it is hard at times not to get upset about things/stalls/life

don't eat badly because you are upset/disappointed/discouraged

(i know easier said than done )

must continue eating healthy, properly

its a forever new lifestyle

you did terrific with your weight loss the first 6 months or so

be proud

stay strong

i have confidence you can do this

welcome back to the neighborhood

good luck

kathy

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
