Help. Need help with US dr or Mexico Dr.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am new here and just starting my journey with Lap band.

I am investigating the pros and cons of US drs and Mexico

Drs. I live in Kansas and am scheduled to go see a seminar

at Dr. Malley's office on the 23rd. But I have also been reading

up on here about the Mexico doctors. My questions are?

Is Dr Malley a good dr and do people trust him to do a good

job?

I will be a self pay so I want to find the best way to do this.

When I read about someones journey to Mexico on another

thread, they talked about going to Dr. Ortiz but researched

another facility down there by the name of Obesity Goodbye.

I wondered if anyone has had their lap band done by this company

either? I do not have a lot of financing since my credit is in the

dumps right now so I have to find the best and cheapest right now.

About myself, I am 40 years old, (JUST RECENT MIND YOU) and

I have 2 young kids still at home. I am almost to 300 lbs now and

really cannot do much anymore. I have back problems, hip problems,

knee problems, but luckily i have yet to get any high blood pressure,

diabetes or anything like that. BUT, I would like to be around for

my kids when they get older plus,,,, I WANT TO LOOK GOOD AGAIN.

Thanks for letting me vent out here. I just moved to Kansas about 5 months ago and still have not made any friends so I tend to ramble.

SORRY. Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

Try calling Dr. Valencia's office at 877-765-8446. Dr. Valencia is the best of both worlds. A professor at a teaching hospital in the US, at UCLA who also has a practice in Mexico. Excellent state of the art hospital. Good prices too. The website is alighterme.com

Good luck to you with whoever you choose! :success1:

The doctor cesar romero that i know used to work with dr.huacuz as a nutritionist. he is not a surgeon that i know of. i could be wrong but i think he was an ER doctor and worked for dr.huacuz on the side. i dont think i would use him. sorry but thats just my opinion. i think you would do well to go to a really experienced surgeon like huacuz or kuri. dont go to the cheapest. shop around and tell them what YOU will pay. they all are willing to negotiate, i think.......... i did... i lost over 100 lbs. i love doctor huacuz. i hope you check out the more experienced doctors first. huacuz, kuri and sanchez, of course since dr.huacuz did my band i can tell you im totally impressed by him and all his staff. great people. kind and caring and just fun to be around. good luck and be careful. i had another surgery with huacuz that was elective and im really pleased with the results and the new surgical center he has. i is so clean and modern. check out his website and call him. hes totally cool and will talk to you directly and listen to you. not like in the good ol' usa.........

I had my lap band done by dr.ortiz. Everything went perfectly, however just be sure that you have a doctor that will follow you here in the U.S. unless you can afford the time and money to go back to Tijuana. I live in a rural area and am having difficulty finding fill docs and follow up care docs

I made an appointment with Dr. Gonzalez and that was the day I actually felt hope, I felt good! He is the best doctor I have ever met, and I have met many. For my high blood pressure and diabetes, for my joint and back pain, yes I have met many doctors, but no one like Dr. Gonzalez. As soon as you meet him and start speaking with him it's like he has known you for years, he made me feel so comfortable. Other doctors made me feel like it was my fault I was overweight. You think I wanted to be like I was? Do you?

Doctor Gonzalez is a Board Certified medical doctor in Mexico. He is a renowned expert in minimally invasive weight reduction surgery.

Doctor Gonzalez has been performing obesity reduction surgery for more than 15 years with great success. He is one of the first surgeons certified by INAMED, the provider of the only LapBand approved in the U.S. by the FDA.

With over 2,500 Lap Band placement procedures, Dr. Gonzalez is among the world's most experienced surgeons in this field. i had my lapband done with Dr. Gonzalez ,I've lost 80 pounds and kept them off,i paid 7,250.00 including pre-op labs, surgery, everything even transportation from and to airport and theres no cost for followup visits or fills.

!!!!CALL THEM ,YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
