Has anyone else had a leak... Here is my story

Recommended Posts

Had surgery November13,2014 on December 11,2014 I had the worse pain ever in my left side and left shoulder. Went to Er and found I had a leak. I had surgery that night to try and fix, but Drs decided to put a stent in on Dec 23. Living with the stent was the worst thing ever! I was in the hospital for 20 days released on 12/31. Living with the stent you were nausea all day/night long. I would throw up 2-3 times a night! I finally got my stent out 7 weeks later and now starting on Clear Liquids. I didn't eat or drink for the entire time, I was on TPN and had 2 drains coming out of my stomach. I am hoping and praying things are better from here on out, just curious if anyone else had a similar situation.

@@suzbitt, I did not have any leaks.

But, I just wanted to say I'm glad you're out of the hospital and doing better. Sounds like you had a horrible experience. so sorry you went through that.

Hopefully from this point on, everything will go smoothly.

Best of luck to you.

So sorry to hear about your leak, but glad you are on the mend. I didn't have one, but there is a complications forum you might want to check out. Lots of stories there. Also, there are lots of people here who did have leaks and have good recovery stories.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
