Calories per day - does your dr or rd give you a certain # of calories a day?

Recommended Posts

My program depended on which phase. Phase 1 - Clear liquids - 600-800. Phase 2 full liquids - 800-100. Phase 3 - mushiness - 800-1000. Phase 4 full food 1000-1200.

I had a hard time hitting those calories for phases 1 & 2. I am in now phase 3 and am almost always 850-950. I track everything with fitness pal.

Well, yes and no. My focus is on getting 60 grams of Protein a day and on my plan I eat four times a day. I shoot for not exceeding 200 calories per meal. On average I end up eating about 600 - 700 calories a day.

The Protein is filling and satisfying so as long as you focus on lean Proteins and getting those as well as your fluids consumption in, you should do fine.

Good luck!

I was never given calorie goals. Just Protein and Water. I also never tracked or measured food. But a couple "spot calorie checks" along the way had me at 500-800 calories at 3 months, 1000-1200 calories around 6 months and I have maintained below goal weight at 1400-1600 calories for the last 6 months.

I was never given a calorie goal either, my practice focuses on Protein and Water goals. I also do calorie spot checks and find that I eat about 200 calories per meal. That plus Snacks puts me in at about 800-100 calories per day.

I was not given calorie goals but encouraged to track my food. I try to stay around 1000 calories per day.

Our program has everyone stay below 800 during the losing phase. I'm not sure I plan to stay that low.

My surgeon told me to stay around 1200 calories per day until the maintenance stage and then I will be at 1600 calories. He did a calculation with my metabolic rate and gave me that information. I don't know any more details.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
