Good morning! I am almost 6 weeks post op. I can get a little hungry, but anytime I try to eat, the food tastes disgusting to me. I am eating on plan. I get my Protein daily, but its from liquids. I just can't stand to eat anything. I cook foods allowed on my diet, and I have to force myself to eat it. Is this normal? Will it get better as I continue to heal?

Thanks!

I definitely experienced this as well. I had to keep on trying. At about 10/12 weeks I noticed things changed for the better and now I rarely have a problem.

I have experience this somewhat myself. I am 3 weeks out and have been released to move from soft foods to the introduction of very moist meats. I have been fixing a few things thinking that they are going to taste so good and they always disappoint. Sometimes something will taste good the first time I eat it but when use it for another meal I no longer like it. I am not quite sure why this is, but it does happen. The worst thing for me are drinks. I cannot find anything that I like except for Water. I guess that is a good thing, but sometimes you would just like to change it up a bit. I have searched for several non caffeine alternates that would still help me reach my Water intake amounts but cannot find anything that I like. I am like you - lets just keep eating to get our nutrition in and hope that it will turn around. The positive side to this is that I have never been tempted to overeat and fill my pouch too full!

Even Water has been hard for me. I can only stand certain kinds. I used to be a total carnivore, but I don't like meat

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
